so i already have my ram at 8gb, will this ssd make it faster or is it time to upgrade http://www.crucial.com/store/mpartspecs.aspx?mtbpoid=B907C644A5CA7304

Does it still perform as you expect it? If yes, I would not bother with upgrading the drive. SSD will give you some speeding up, only if the price is right comparing to what you paid for this notebook in the 1st place

its slow as balls compared to my other pcs. should i just buy an asus ux21a and be done with this thing

Sure, newer notebooks are always cool laugh4.gif

Have you looked into Lenovo 11" series? Their price point is very competitive

As far as being slow - have you tried a new clean installation, some cleaning inside and new thermal paste?

i think heat is part of the problem. the 7200rpm drive in it gets HOT, which makes the whole system get hot. with the ssd wont have this problem

Well, I might have run into a problem with the ssd on this system. Now the internal sound card won't show up. If I switch back to the original hdd it shows up and works fine. Tried re cloning the drive, updated the firmware, drivers etc.

To get my sound card to show up, I have to pull the internal battery on the motherboard. With the hdd sound is fine after doing this, with the ssd maybe 1 or 2 power cycles and then it won't find it. I guess time to call crucial, I hope I don't have to send this back it's so much faster

AHCI set up? SSD controller / firmware up to date?

Got AHCI setup. Turned out the problem was the cable from the sound card to mobo was getting pulled out when I tightened up the case lol. Can't believe I didn't notice that.

just as an update, i kept having problems with the m4, so i had to send it back to crucial. the system would hang randomly, it was better with the updated firmware, but it would still happen. crucial took it back no problem, and i have not had one system hang since going back to the original drive. i guess ill just wait for my next laptop for an SSD.
