Acer 8943g Ram Question

Hi all,

I need some advise on some Ram for my Acer 8943g.

I purchased 4 x 4gb Ram Chips to make the total amount of Ram 16gb. I have the i7 Q720 so according to various websites the max Ram i can have is 16gb.

The chips i purchased were 4gb DDR3 - 1066mhz - PC 8500 - 204 Pin.

I was doing a clean install of windows. The first time i powered on the laptop it would not power on. I took the chips out and put them back in again.

Almost instantly i noticed the laptop giving off alot of heat. The laptop froze and gave the BSOD.

I tried again and the laptop again froze and gave the BSOD.

I tried with only 3 chips, then 2 and finally 1 each time the laptop froze and gave the BSOD.

The Ram chips were also very hot even though the system was not on for long.

I put the original Ram chips back in which were 2 x 2gb and the laptop booted fine. No heat (apart from the usual), no freezing and no BSOD.

So do you think it was the Ram chips? As far as i can tell they are not a brand name and they were quite cheap compared to other chips i have seen so could it be them?

Does anybody know what chips would be best. I am in the UK and would like to max the system out to 16gb as cheap as i can. Would it be better to get 2 x 8gb Ram chips or 4 x 4gb Ram chips.

Many thanks in advance

Looking like you have the right ram modules. Check and update your BIOS and take the ram modules back for replacement - those are the steps I would take
