Driver question for amd chipset

Thread Starter

AMD M880G Chipset is what I have.I always thought with amd notebooks, the graphics driver included chipset driver with it.Today I think i am wrong.

Do I need to download this,or was I right?On the support & drivers dropdown I selected motherboard/chipset,amd 8-series chipsets,all 8 series (no other option),w7 64b

You should download what you have from ACER support site for your model. Don't try direct with AMD, it might cause problem

I was wondering because if I try to startup my notebook with a usb external HDD on,it freezes while the 7 logo tries to load.I searched around & many have this problem.Seen same question over & over with no clear answer.Basically it boiled down to windows 7 &/or usb software being the cause. So the chipset came to me.I never downloaded a chipset driver on this laptop.

Honestly acer sucks with needed drivers for older models.Look at what drivers it shows.

Almost all need updated & they don't even show a gpu & hdmi driver for my notebook.Yes its the same model I have.

I went ahead & downloaded the chipset driver.Seems like the usbs load much faster now & the irritating auto play popup quit showing up!

Haven't tried to startup with external HDD on yet though, hope it fixed that.

Thanks for the reply though.Much appreciated :)

The freezing on Windows 7 start-up when USB devices are being present can be attribute to either Virus Scanner setting to scan USB devices or USB devices drivers themselves conflicting with Windows 7.

I recommend that you review the USB drivers and remove them if there is really o need for them, let Windows 7 handle it, and the virus scanner. Check also BIOS settings, making sure that USB port boot are behind optical drive and hard drive

Thanks for the reply!I'm screwed getting into bios till I get a usb keyboard.Haven't had a keyboard awhile.I use avast internet security, never thought about it doing that. Will try to see if their is usb settings in it somewhere.I think I got usb set for last, could be wrong though.

Been half a year since I got into bios.

Trying to boot the computer with a usb storage device plugged in, I would think the computer is scanning the external and looking for a change in boot order...My general understanding is that no usb storage devices should be plugged in while rebooting
