I am having some serious problems with my Studio XPS 1645. I have the model that was sold at Costco in Canada a few years ago, 8GB, ATI 4670 GPU, etc. Well it's died on me for the second time since the first of the year. It beeps 6 times and fails to start up, the display doesn't turn on, but the backlight on the keys does come on.
It was still under the costco warranty when it broke the first time, so it wasn't a big deal, but the warranty ended on August 1, and wouldn't you know it died on me less than 2 months after.
Is anyone familiar with what error 6 beeps corresponds to? I am assuming it's an issue with the GPU, but honestly I find it hard to believe that it's burned out all ready. Around October of last year, I noticed the temperature was hot so I bought the biggest most powerful cooler I could find, that really cut down on the temp. Since getting it back from repair, it has not been under heavy load, about 6 hours of Tropico 4, and 3 hours of WOW in the last 6 months, so I am having a hard time seeing how the GPU could be burned out all ready.
If it is the GPU, I am assuming that to replace it requires replacing the MB as well? Any guess on how much it would cost would be appreciated as well.
