Toshiba screen upgrade

Thread Starter
I'm using a Toshiba Satellite A105. It works good and I've upgraded everything else I can, but the screen resolution on the oem screen is not high enough for some of the work I do. I have to keep adjusting sizes and scrolling around to see what I need to see. These same files are easier to read on my higher resolution work laptop. I would like to upgrade to at least 1680 x 1050. Is it possible to upgrade this screen?

Possible if you can find one that fits into the current bezel, might need some tweaking and cutting smile.gif

Search for 15.6" WSXGA.

It looks like what I need is WSXGA+ I do not know which laptop screens are compatible with the connectors on my computer. It's been a while since I've taken a screen out of a laptop.

Asus 15.6" does have the WSXGA+

Take a look at its model number, specs, and then comparing to yours ... pin, connector etc ...

Ok, so I found a compatible screen, but have a display issue. All of the red pixels are lit up at full bright. Defective screen or...?

Sounded like a bad LCD. You have the inverter to go with it?

No. It was sold without the inverter. I suppose that is my bad for purchasing a screen without the matching inverter.

The original screen is an AUO and this one is a phillips-LG. Not sure I'd that makes a difference...

Find out where that screen comes from (notebook models ..) and get an inverter first. Good luck

It happens to fit a Dell Inspirion 6400, so I ordered the inverter board for that. Guess I'll find out in a few days if that was the problem or not.

The inverter didn't solve the problem. Maybe the video card/driver couldn't handle the higher reduction. sad.gif Either way, the current resolution is annoyingly low. A new notebook may be in the near future...

I am going back to the possibility of a bad LCD replacement. Your video is able to handle higher resolution

I want to believe that, but not sure if I want to make the investment in another screen only to have it not work. I wish I knew someone who can confirm a part# that works for sure with my setup.

I have read in other forums that the built in Intel video will support the resolution I am going after.

The notebook is well beyond warranty.
Maybe I will resume my search. I wonder what the possibility of a touchscreen upgrade....
unless there is a touchscreen made for that particular notebook model, I doubt that you can just buy and plug. Drivers, power etc ...

smile.gif the touchscreen was more of a nice thought than an realistic option. Still, I would like to up the resolution on this thing.
