Acer Iconia 6120 - loss of touch control

Thread Starter

I have scoured the web and worked with Acer tech support on this issue and have had absolutely no luck resolving the issue... any assistance would be appreciated.

About 30 minutes after I start my Iconia 6120, the cursor starts jumping around the upper screen, typically on the right hand side of the monitor. Sometimes it will select things, other times just jump around, but regardless, I have no control of the cursor. Other times the cursor will just stop responding. If I toucn the upper screen, it sometimes will jump to my touch and then be usable again for a while before displaying the above described behavior. The cursor will finallt become completely unresponsive and not touc on either screen is responded to. I eventually have to turn off the computer with the power button.

As I mentined before, I have worked with Acer and have sent the unit in many times. They typically say they have run a "deep diagnostic" and can find nothing wrong. They state they cannot replicate the issues.

I have reinstalled the os several times. Acer has also told me that I should run the notebook on a cooling pad and always use both transformers when the unit is plugged in - which I always do.

When the unit gets to the point it is going to start acting up, the Intel gadget shows the CPU pinned all the way, the fan speeds up and is rather warm. Acer has replaced the CPU and that did not help.

If anyone has had a similar issue or can give me a sugestion, I would greatly appreciat it. I really like this machine. I am just tired of losing control and having to reboot all the time.

PS - I have enjoyed running Windows 8 on this unit.... just have the same, above described issue and the same dual screen issues others have reported.

Thank you!

My wild guess, seeing many things like this on different touch-pads, the touch screen unit is failing

I have exactly the same problem and I am guessing we are not alone

One more here with the same problem. Seems powering it off it the only solution. It also seems to happen more often when I am moving back and forth between both screens. I am now running windows 8 pro and thought the issue was finished but it just happened on mine again. BTW, windows 8 is AWESOME on this thing.

Anyone has any feedback from Acer?

Every time I talk to Acer about this problem - and I have been "elevated" to the second teir - they claim they have never heard of this issue before. They did finally swap out my unit, but the new unit does the same thing.

Do you have any way to test if the touch screen is failing? This happens on brand new units where the touch screen should not be failing. Every time I send the unit in, ACER claims to have done a "Deep Scan Analysis" of the unit and can never find anything.

How do you run 8 on both screens? when I attempt, it turns the screen upside down on the second monitor.

It is a weird, sometimes sporradic problem. One week it wont be so bad, the next, every 20 minutes. This week is pretty bad. I just cannot figure out whar the cause is.

What I have noticed is that when it happens, the included Intel Core i5 desktop gadget is pinned at 2.96 and the fan is in "overdrive." I took out the battery and am running on just cord power.... seems to be helping for some reason.....

No BIOS / utilities update from Acer that you are aware off?

The latest BIOS is 1.07 - which is what is installed. There are also no updates from ACER. I try looking for updates regularly.

LOL - they have recently updated their updater, but there has never been anything released for the updater to update! azz.gif

Running sans battery gave a tad more time....but then had to turn off again.

They better do something quick. This is getting ridiculous. Even if they think that there is no issue, they must be clear about the working environment

So I called Acer yet again today. They still are baffled. I am sending this thing in yet again. I hope they actually come up with a solution this time. (This will be the 8th time, I believe, that I have sent a unit in for this same problem.)

Hello everybody !

I have same problem with my iconia 6120.

When ghost touching start i turn upper screen back and forth and it stop.

I think the problem is maybe on digitizer or main cables which are in hinges...

I have warranty on my iconia so i think send my laptop to acer, but is seems to be waste of time.

if they try 8 times to fix this problem ---> but no solution..

any new info ?

Hello, I´m new in here but I wanted to share this with you since, maybe, we can solve this together. I´ve spoken to a guy from Germany that posted in youtube, he can fix the "ghost touch" fail of the Iconia 6120. He says it´s hardware failure and to fix it asks for a 90€ donation. The so called "fix", he explains to you in a picture so I guess it can´t be a major failure. oh, and one more thing...my iconia 6120 runs without battery since the day before yesterday and the "ghost touch" dissapeared. Let´s see if we can figure out more.

Do you happen to have the link to the youtube clip?

The comment right under it. I mailed him and explained to me that he will "send me a photo explaining the fix" for 90 €
