VIVO X1 Android Smart Phone - world thinnest

Chinese company Vivo unleashed the X1, which is a mere 6.55mm, making it a fraction (0.1mm) thinner than its other Chinese rival, the Oppo Finder, and a full 1.05mm, or just under 14 per cent, thinner than the iPhone 5.

The handset, which costs 2600 yuan (around £270), runs Android 4.0 ICS and is powered by a dual-core system-on-chip, the Mediatek MT6577, which is based on the Cortex-A9 with a PowerVR SGX540 GPU and a 1GHz clock-speed.

Other features include a 4.7in 1,280 x 720 pixel display, an 8-megapixel rear camera which is flushed (rather than protruding like the one on the Oppo Finder).[/]

Vivo confirmed that the phone will include pair of Beyerdynamic DTX71IE earphones and that a quad-core model based on Mediatek’s new SoC will go on sale in February 2013.

The Chinese company hasn’t confirmed whether the phone will be available in other territories but it is more than likely that it will go on sale at Chinese retailers like Focalprice, Dealextreme or Aliexpress.

It's funny and I may just be some sort of freak but I prefer my phones to have a little more heft to them.

I got an SGS3 several months ago and one of the very few things I would change about it would be to make a little thicker and a bit heavier.

It's so light and thin that sometimes my brain feels like the phone seems flimsy and cheap. Plus a little extra room in the case would have allowed for bigger than a 2100mAh battery (I know I can buy aftermarket batteries and a new cover which will increase running time and the thickness of the phone).

I know it makes a great marketing point to say "thinnest most advanced phone ever!!!!11!!11!1!!" But I'd much rather have a phone with better battery life and a more sturdy feel than a thin phone that feels like a toy.

It's a conspiracy winknudge.gif

They make it thin so that one must buy the case and protectors

How are you liking this phone so far? Any issues regarding screen popping out (mostly at the upper corners), paint peeling off etc? ...

cheers ...

I've not had any issues of the sort. Of course since the day I bought it I've had it in a case and with a screen protector on it, so I may not encounter the issues.

The phone is great on the whole. I've got the T-mo version. Within the first few days of owning I rooted it. So far the only real use I've put to the root is setting up a tethering program that bypass T-mo data checks so I don't have to pay for tethering if I need it. Well that and removing crapware.

The forums at XDA are quite useful as well I was able to root without tripping the flash counter, still using the stock ROM. I've been looking around at ROMS a little but I haven't seen any that really jump out at me yet.

One pain in the ass issue with the screen is that it's curved, and this is really only a PITA because most screen covers won't adhere to the rounded edges particularly well.

Connectivity is great, I haven't felt the need to flash a different radio or anything. I'm a bit saddened that they removed the FM radio hardware on the US carrier versions. It wasn't advertised on any of the phones but the international version (IIRC from reading XDA) still has the hardware for it and you can install tuner software for it.

I complained above about the battery but it isn't that bad. I use the phone also as my MP3 player. Using it as such for most of my work day (probably 6 hours/day because I have to turn it off for meetings and crunching data sometimes), playing probably an hour of games on the train rides to and from work, maybe 30 mins/day of actual phone time, email, some texts, etc (but wifi off unless I'm at home) I get home with about 25-35% battery life, though sometimes it's lower and sometimes it's higher depending on the particular day. But in comparison to my TP2 when it was new I would listen to MP3s all day, play games and surf the web on the train and still get home with >50% battery life; after almost three years of use on the stock battery I was still able to listen to MP3s all day long and still have just a bit of battery left when I got home, or sometimes die on the car ride home from the train station.

T-mo just pushed out a new OTA update and I think it's the official Jelly Bean update, got the notification a few days ago but I haven't had time to sit down and install it yet.

Thanks for the comeback Dougadamsfan. Yeah, those issues are mostly with the ones with no case so far. We'll keep our eyes peeled for this over here. If you would now and then update your observation here, it is greatly appreciated.

I'd check on xda-developers for it. Flashing procedures are different on each phone and I can't even tell you for certain if anyone has figured out the procedure for your particular phone yet.
