Gaming laptop advice

Thread Starter

I need a gaming laptop primarily for FIFA 13.  My preference would be a powerful laptop with big display and decent sound. I have shortlisted an Asus laptop Should I go for it?

Please suggest me a few more laptops. Budget is not a concern!

Get something with at least GTX 660M in Nvidia terms - 630M isn't really a "gaming" GPU. That CPU is OK.

I have had this model for a few months and it probably meets all your component demands..I am not a gamer but thought I would pass it on for a suggestion of something in this line possibly a newer model

hey zipperi

Yesterday I started a thing to you about this computer it got too long.  BUY from another company.

I’m not a gamer per se, but as far as screen and keyboard this is the nicest thing you will ever find.  The sound is sound, not bad I suppose but I haven’t used a lot of notebooks.  I wouldn’t mind if the volume would go a tad higher.  I can’t fully rate it as gamer because I’m not a gamer.  I watch DVD movies, online TV, play board games, and write.   With 8 G ram, I was never able to jam it, but wondered if the strange hangs had to do with the cache, the size of which isn’t picked up with belarc advisor.  Someone told me it HAS to have a cache.   I GOT great online streaming video with a rural ADSL telephone connection.

The PROBLEM is with ASUS.  I bought it 4 months ago.   Just spent another 2 hours on the phone with Asus.  It was goofy from the get-go.   After a month the retailer tried to assist by phone but said I should deal with Asus if I couldn’t sort things out.   HUNDREDs of hours have been wasted with it.  At month 2 I wanted it replaced.  Asus said they’d repair, never replace, BUT I would have to pay shipping AND would be charged for any and all user induced issues.   I was going to reformat it but then the graphic controller started doing full system crashes.   I’d put nearly 300 hours into getting it to where I could transfer from my old unit and never was able to.  I was fed up.  I couldn’t afford a $200 shipping bill!   I finally got them to agree the unit was unstable and they picked it up.

I sent it as new condition, well packed and clean as a whistle.   A month later I get it back in a torn cardboard cover all scratched w/ the screen frame warped, the back panel buckled out.  the keyboard lights up.  I hear it run but the screen doesn’t work.  the package had not been marked fragile or handle with care.  the wrapper was torn.   The courier said it wasn’t properly packed so no claim with them.

Asus is still saying they will repair it.   I want a new one.  I’ve talked to ½ dozen supervisors, sent photos etc.   The ONLY thing they TELL me (no document) about the repair was they replaced the graphic card.   No mention about the 22 administrative critical errors that occurred before it was supposed to have hit store shelves/

YOU WANT TO BUY AN ASUS, DO SO AT YOUR OWN RISK.  I joined their forum for advice and see a guy who’s on his 5th G75 replacement.

Their ads are false.  Btw, whatever you buy be careful with WHERE.  Some companies, such as Asus, do not cover warrantees if purchased at certain retailers.   All I want is the NEW computer I bought 4 bloody months ago.   It was the ONLY one I could find that had a screen my eyes could tolerate.   Nice machine, TOTALLY CRAPPY COMPANY.

Best wishes to you.   drummer

Another horror story about Asus support - feel sorry for you. But I've had no problems with my G51j at all - lucky me.

I'd be very surprised, if an i5 would be rated as a gaming laptop

Oops.  Should have added my model was G75.  sent it back today.  I'm still holding out for a replacement... actually hoping it isn't fixable so this will be over.  Whatever happened to ethics?  If you are responsible for breaking something that belongs to someone else you offer to replace it.  Why won't they?  duh...

Is this despicable treatment of customers common?  Perhaps we should think about going back to our caves, treating each other with respect and get out of the electronic worm hole we seem to have gotten sucked into.

Before I bought the G75 - back in June - there was a Samsung gamer reviewed on Cnet.  Looked pretty good.  A high quality matte screen and english only keyboard were my requirements.  I chose the Asus because I saw a similar to my model in a local shop.  I just went after the screen, found it, bought it and here I am... thinking about that cave.

My G74sx is about 9 months old..the optical drive crapped out on me..got hold of the ASUS people on line..chatted with a tech..told them what I had tried to rectify it ie: drivers, restore back a week or so, and they told me to go to a link and ask for an RMA number..did that, shipped it in on 24th Dec and got it back Jan 2 or 3rd...pretty good I would say for over the holiday season..works like a charm, returned it as good as it went in..used my original box I had saved with the packing material...I thought support was pretty much excellent
