Dell XPS 15z LCD Panel Swap

Hello All,

I am in the process of trying to change out a broken LCD panel on a Dell XPS 15z laptop.  I ordered a replacement on eBay, and have since installed it.  The problem is, that when I turn the computer on, the back-light comes on, but there is no video.  The Dell Part number is different on the new screen than it was on the old screen.  My question is, do the part numbers have to explicitly match, or can they vary, and to what extent.  I'm wondering that maybe this screen is different enough to the old one that, that is maybe why it won't work properly?

Thank you,

Jason

Part numbers could be different on normal LCD, as long as the specs are close they should be fine.

In your case you might want to stick with the recommended replacement parts due to the LED-Backlit screen type.

The part I have is a Dell part, being that it has a Dell Part number.. but I guess maybe it's a different type.. like on that website you sent me it says WXGA, WUXGA, WXGA++... are all these interchangeable?  I've also heard that swapping the inverter may help?

Yes - the ones in the link are interchangeable for this Dell notebook model. Do these screen have inverter? If yes, worth a try

Both screens have inverters... the one that I got and the one that was in the laptop. Should I use the inverter that came with the laptop? What would cause it not to display a picture but show the backlight?

You should try to get the inverter that goes with the replacement screen. Not sure about just the back-light was being on and not the picture. Go with the inverter first and see

None of the screens for 15Z have an "inverter", as only CCFL back-lit screens require an inverter.
All the screens above are LED and do not require an "inverter"

As well not all the screens on that page are interchangeable.

- The first pair is the standard profile screen

- The other 4 are "RazorThin"
- Out of the RazorThin 4, the bottom two will only work with a Dual-Channel LVDS cable (1920x1080 resolution required DVI-D)

The reason your eBay screen did not work, is because your computer has an LCD whitelist put in by Dell.

No such problems with screens from the above site, as long as you match the Resolution and form factor (profile).

What do you mean by white list? How does one go about finding out form-factor, resolution when the original screen if FUBAR? Thanks, Jason
