alienware m17 clone Change cpu.

Thread Starter

Hi, i got a year ago an Alienware M17 clone (it was anounced as a OCZ laptop)

With the following specs.

Windows 7

Intel core2quad 9100

Dual ati 3850

4gb ram

blue ray player

ETC

TBH i don't use the laptop that much, I mostly use my desktop and my phone.

when i received the laptop i notest that the laptop chipset was getting to 90C+ and the cpu was almost the same (1 year ago) so i did the copper shim mod and reduced the CPU temps and 5-10c the chipset temps.

I don't need a Quad core on this laptop, so i was wondering if someone has replaced the C2Q 9100 to a Dual core, and IF i can do that ( without updating the bios, because i don't know what manufacturer  to get it from) What is the Fastest Dual core this laptop accepts?

Thanks for the advices.

A core 2 Duo E series maybe , for the P47 chipset? I wonder if it's worth the downgrade

I want to lower the power consumption and the heat that the laptop is getting.

I imagine the c2q 9100 is hotter than a lower nm core2duo.

Not necessarily. Some of the quad core can be very power efficient. You might want playing with power settings instead?

Hi. I suggest you run CPU-Z, and see what Northbridge Chipset, and CPU Socket you have. Then look at what the compatible options are with the power consumption you want, on the Intel website.
