Which tablet pc should I get?

I know this is notebook forum but I consider a tablet as a notebook pc. So I will be buying tablet in next few weeks and in last few weeks a lot of "big players" tablets have been released. So I'm looking at these tablets: Surface RT, iPad 4th gen., Nexus 7 and 10. I will mostly use my tablet at home but sometimes I will be taking it to school and outside. Things I will do with it are internet browsing, watching youtube, playing games and sometimes watching movies, so it will be used for multimedia and fun, maybe some work but not too often(work in word and powerpoint). So what do you think whic should I get? I think they are all great tablets but just can't decide which is the best for me. Here are prices in my country if you think I should consider that: iPad 16gb-670$, Nexus 7 16gb-370$, and Nexus and Surface aren't aveilable yet, but I excpect them to be around 150$ more than in US.

Regards

I would recommend going with a 10" (or around that size) for your needs, as you stated. And $300 difference in price is not something one cannot take in consideration. Go to a store and try Apple and Android out for yourself, reading specs and reviews can only do so much for such a personal investment.

Apple devices have good resale value and good support, Android devices are good and much cheaper to own - personal preference at the end of the day.

Take a look at our News Section for some information regarding Tablets / Tablet-PCs ... we consider them all mobile devices here, just like notebooks wink.gif

cheers ...

I tried iPad both 2 and 3rd gen and I like it, but unfortunately I can't try any android tablet since shops that sell them doesn't have them unboxed. And I'm not sure is iPad 3 worth it since it is more expensive, heavier and thicker and if I didn't know which iPad was 2nd and which 3rd gen I wouldn't be able to recognize which is 3rd, screen ain't that diffrent from what I remember. Maybe now after I was using iPhone 4s with huge ppi I would be able to note the difference.

I agree, it can be a pain trying to tell the difference between the 2 and 3 iPad laugh4.gif You really need to have both of them side by side, then the screen of the 3rd can make the difference.

But the 4th is on the way, so if you like Apple - go for the 4th at the same price, this you can tell by the small lightning connector smile.gif

Would the phone shops, where you are, carry the Android tablets? That's where I mostly go to check them out.

Unfortunately only shops that sell pc hardware carry Andorid Tablets, and I can only try Apple products because there are 3 stores in my small city wow.gif

That is what I like about Apple, they are trying to come in every little corner in the world so they can show off their product line.

I think I will have to find out if somebody of my friends have Nexus 7 cuz I really like it, and I'm mostly leaning towards it right now.

I work in power point maybe once or twice a year when I have to do something for scool. I use word more often but I don't do any heavy work in it, just paste the text and pictures.

Now, I have one little bit weird request, if somebody who owns and iPad can measure how big is video that is playing on iPad from youtube because I know iPads screen isn't 16:9, and youtube is very important to me and I would like movie to be as big as possible if I'm using that big tablet. Thank you in adavance

How is that possible, I thought iPads screen is 4:3 and youtube is 16:9 ratio, shouldn't you have black stripes??

The only strip I have, at full screen, is the navigation bar at the top. I don't use any YouTube app on the iPad, creating my own button and accessing YouTube via the browser tongue.gif

Hmmm I'm also using youtube via browser on my iP4s and I get 2 black strips up and down.

I wonder if it has to do with the video clip quality, like 720p vs 360p?

Well I tried in both hq and lq and it is always the same although when I saw YouTube video playing on iPhone 5 it was full screen without stripes and that is why I think it is due to 4:3 and not 16:9 aspect ratio.

Well, maybe YouTube uploaders are nice enough to use the crop, stretch tags in their contents tongue.gif Those option tags are made available, just use them

I came across this new iPad Apps (McTube)

http://www.notebookforums.com/t/239434/cool-at-times-free-ios-apps/200#post_3355098

Most of the video clips at full screen have pretty much no black borders - comparing to the same ones I pulled up from browsers and other apps. Also it is quick and smooth in loading up categories and individual clips. Give it a try.

1,4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
2 GB 1067 MHz DDR3

How much is the new iPad in your part of the world? If I use the the iPad price over here, and 2/3 of it is about right for that (used and in good condition) macbook air model
