New Retina Display Alienware Lappy

Now that I got your attention, is it about time for a bigger Alienware announcement? Maybe something along the line of a high density display laptop? Or a powerful, lighter laptop like the razer blade? I for one have a fully decked out M17xR2, but it's showing its age, and I need something more powerful just to run the software I use for work and to be honest, the M17xR2 is very heavy. I'd love something lighter.

Any ideas or insight when the next major announcement will be? Right now, it been mainly speed bumps. I'd like to see a redesign.

Well, hardware is there. Windows OS needs to be redesigned in order to support the Retina display presentation. Graphic card power alone cannot work the display without an OS environment to play on.

Hmm, I was told the only reason that we don't have the high resolution lcd's is because of lack of good font scaling tech. However, that's all in Windows 8, so we should be seeing that, no? If it's redesigning the OS, just so it's better laid out for higher resolution, I'd really doubt. I use dual 2560 x 1440 monitors at work, and would really like that resolution in my laptop. I can use the resolution right now. On a 17", imo, this would be fine. At work it's a 27" but I can deal with high density just fine, good eyesight;)

Windows 8 has the potential to support Retina display, looking at its new UI design. But, here's the big "but" ... the OS currently switches between tablet / touch screen support and Desktop / notebook environment.

The big difference is in using bitmap handling instead of vector ... my thinking. At work we loaded Windows 8 on the macbook Retina (15") and could not get Windows to push above 1920 x 1080. All the nVidia Beta for Windows 8 so far has not resolved the issue sad.gif

cheers ...

That's interesting qhn, I was putting the 15" macbook pro as an option to upgrade here, but not anymore. I'm really hoping that Alienware is the first to offer something with a dense display windows-wise, I'm ready to upgrade!
