X55V getting mad with elan trackpad driver

So I have an, horrible, ASUS X55V and I'm really getting mad with the trackpad. It looks like in most Windows apps, like Help, Internet Explorer, Windows Live Mail, when I start 2 finger scrolling inside the window  a small strange cursor symbol appears and the text starts zooming. Even disabling 2 fingers zoom doesn't change anything. What's even more strange is that I just created 2 new accounts one admin, one normal and the normal one, at leats for now, doesn't exhibit this problem. I'm running Windows 7. Any help, please ?

No driver update from Asus for Windows 7 on the trackpad/touchpad device? Any BIOS update for Windows 7 support?

cheers ...

System is up to date. I'm starting to believe it's some kind of nonsense going on with tablet and/or stylus settings even if I'm not using any of them. It must be a Windows thing, because it happens only with Windows apps (for example it happens in IE but not on Chrome or Firefox). I hate this computer, Windows 7 is giving me a lot of troubles and Internet Explorer 9 must be the worst piece of software ever developed.

Hi, I just bought myself the same computer, an Asus X55V, and I experience exactly the same problem with my mouse pad when I want to scroll down using two fingers in a Help topic or in Windows Live Mail. Each time I scroll a bit, the text enlarges, enlarges, enlarges... finally reaching such an enormous size that reading becomes impossible. After that, I found it to be impossible to size the text down again.

What can I do? I hope there is an easy fix, because I am not a computer expert... (Having used a Mac note book for the last 7 years, which never gave me any problem, I have no experience with PC problems.)

Thanks enyone,

Eric

Which Windows version are you using Eric? Same as Alfio - Windows 7?

Yes, It is also Windows 7

this link recommends going over the touchpad/mouse settings again ...

http://www.vistax64.com/general-discussion/232286-font-size-increase-decrease-when-drag-touchpad.html

I would also try the followings:
- create a system restore point
- disable / remove the current touch pad device and driver
- restart and let Windows search and re-install that crazy touchpad device

cheers ...

Looks like there are a couple on threads on the net with this problem, like here http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windowslive/forum/hotmail-email/reading-pane-keeps-zooming-windows-live-mail/586f9f80-d119-4fb7-bf0a-1f915e91bca3?msgId=254e3200-0c04-4ba5-be97-1d3581bbb7a5 but with no known solutions :-( Btw, I just sent an email to ASUS support center. Let's see if they can help....

Sorry, I forgot to thank you for your help; It is the first time I am on one of these forums, and do not know very well how they work

Eric I forgot to mention that when the zoom starts in Internet Explorer I just noticed a small keyboard appearing on the left side of the screen. Have you noticed that too ??

Alfio, I have not used Internet Explorer so far, only use Chrome.

What I can say is that when the zooming occurs, in Windows Live Mail, I can see a strange sort of rectangular dot instead of the usual cursor. That rectangular dot appears for only a couple of seconds, during the zooming,  then disappears.

As for the small keyboad symbol on the screen; yes I remember having seen it at certain times when scrolling up or down with two fingers, but I can not remember in what sort of document It occured. I will now do some testing in different sort of documents, to see where it happens, and will let you know.

Ok, I did some more testing in Windows Live Mail.

While scrolling down with two fingers, both the little keyboard symbol and that strange small rectangular dot appear from time to time, but not always and not in a continuous way whilst I am scrolling down. I would say that they rather flicker up from time to time, randomly, while the scrolling and zooming occur.

Exactly the same behaviour that I get here. The small keyboard seems to be related to some touchscreen function. So as I suspected the touchpad driver upon two finger scrolling triggers some kind of tablet/stylus "feature" of Windows 7.

How about disabling the Windows Tablet Service in services?

Looks like I'm giving up on this, it's beyond my IQ. I disabled the tablet services and created a new user account. For the first 5 minutes I had scrolling back an NO zoom. After that it's back to the previous state, with weird mouse pointer icon and zoom.

hello everyone

I'm on the Asus R500V with win7 and had the same problem,

going to 'control panel' > 'pen and touch' and then disabeling everything under the 'touch' tab seems to fix it for me.

grtz,

vIDo
