Acer M5-581T strange charging issue

Hi All,

I'm having a charging issue with my M5-581T since upgrading to the latest BIOS (2.03). If I turn on my laptop while plugged in it charges fine. Windows shows it charging and the percentage increases. However, if I then unplug and plug it back in it does not charge correctly. Windows says it's plugged in and charging but the percentage does not increase. The percentage doesn't go down either. It just maintains the charge level. I then have to restart for it to charge successfully and the percentage to increase. I also tried booting into Linux and noticed the same behavior. I had no issues prior to upgrading the BIOS. Is anyone else experiencing this same issue? Does anyone know a way to downgrade to a previous BIOS?

Thanks,
Tezmar

Do they have the previous BIOS version at ACER Support Site? If yes, you can try using it.

Comp still under warranty? Call Acer up ... It could be a coincidence that the battery is failing

Thanks for the reply qhn. I tried installing the previous BIOS version from Acer's site, but it won't install because it's an older version. I spoke to Acer support and they are sending me a new AC adapter to try, but I doubt that will resolve the issue since it charges fine until I unplug and plug it back in. I just bought the laptop a week ago so it seems early for the battery to be failing. I was just hoping that it may be an issue with the BIOS that others experienced too. I would just return it to the store but I upgraded from windows 8 to windows 8 Pro on it, and the license isn't transferable to a different PC.

Parts can fail at anytime, new or not. Hopefully the adapter would do the trick, if not, push hard for a replacement, or at least a repair to go back to previous BIOS

Good luck. Let us know how it turns out.

Just bought my laptop on December 2 and having same issue. Laptop will charge if plugged in before start up, but not if I plug it in while the laptop is already on.

I have the same issue. They have a new BIOS out 2.08 but that doesn't fix it. This is a Windows 8 laptop. I have also tried various chargers. Hopefully Acer will get it fixed soon.

I'm having the same problem with this laptop. I bought it a week ago. Please let us know if there is a fix.
