Please help me choose the Sony vaio notebook

Thread Starter

I have short listed 3 Sony notebooks as follows:-

Price USD 850

http://www.sony.co.in/product/sve15127cn

Price USD 1100
http://www.sony.co.in/product/svt14116pn

Price USD 1300

http://www.sony.co.in/product/svs15125cn

My requirement is NOT for gaming.

I would be using it for programs like CorelDraw 12 / Photoshop (corel, photoshop files not more than 25 MB) , Skype video conferencing and net surfing.

I was more inclined towards Graphic Intel HD 4000 for better display quality and no overheating issues in notebook but I have very limited choices in 3nd gen i5 intel processor.

Kindly inform is combination of GPU and Intel 4000 good option, just in case I don't find intel HD 4000 ?

I would like to know generally which screen size would be better choice for me 14 or 15.5 inch ?

Last but not least, which will serve value for money (taking in account my useage)

Thanking you all in advance.

I see nothing wrong with the 1st choice of $850, it should be able to support your needs

In general point of view 15 inch screen is preferred by most laptop users. First option is better choice based on your requirements.

@ qhn Thanks for replying to my question. Sorry to bother you again, I figured out one model which is as follows:-

Sony Vaio
3rd Gen Intel® Core™ i3-3110M Processor 2.40 GHz*1, Intel® HD Graphics 4000, 2 GB Memory (o/s Windows 8)

http://www.sony.co.in/product/sve15123cn

As mentioned earlier I require this notebook for:-

- NOT for gaming
- Would be using it for programs like CorelDraw 12 / Adobe Photoshop (coreldraw, photoshop files not more than 25 MB)
- Skype video conferencing
- Net surfing

Would the above model solve my purpose ? OR should I go for 3rd gen i5 processor ?

10K difference in price, but you would get double the memory amount and a dedicated graphic card. I recommend staying with the i5, the 850 price in your 1st post, taking doing CAD work in consideration.

Yep I fully agree spending 10K more is worth every penny. In my heart I was 100% prepared for i5, but still I wanted to rule out i3, only after knowing your opinion. Now I am confident would stick to i5 only.  I appreciate your wise advice. Once again thanks very much qhn. thumbup.gif

Btw,, Is Intel® Core™ i5-3210M Processor 2.50 GHz with Turbo Boost up to 3.10 GHz 3rd (Ivy Bridge) generation Or 2nd generation processor ??

Actually, it's not mentioned on Sony vaio website:     http://www.sony.co.in/product/sve15127cn

How much of a difference in price are we looking at here? The 3rd Gen i5 is supposedly cooler, requiring less power

I am already prepared to buy i5 without caring about the price,  just wanted to confirm if this model is of 2nd gen or 3rd gen processor.

The salesman told me it's from intel 3rd generation family, but I thought to double check by asking you (as it's not mentioned on the website).

The model I am buying has processor of  Intel® Core™ i5-3210M Processor 2.50 GHz with Turbo Boost up to 3.10 GHz

I hope the processor in the above model is 3rd Generation intel processor.

Thanks in advance.
