Toshiba Satellite L505-S5964 Charging Issue/Power Cord Not Connecting

Hey guys,

I have a Toshiba Satellite that I would guess to be about 4-5 years old (complete guess, im absolutely terrible with dates). Just yesterday I had troubles with the power chord not properly connecting. It is acting as if it has a short. If I play with the cord, wiggle it around, spin it slowly it will eventually make "contact" and if I stay really still it will charge for a while until I move or the laptop decides that it doesnt like the current cord orientation. I know that eventually this short term fix will stop working.

This laptop stays in the living room 99% of the time and used practically daily. We have dogs who will lay down on the cord, or someone will accidentally yank on the cord while its plugged in, etc. There also seems to be a lot of slop where the cord connects. I can grab the power cord and move it around a good 1/8" in all directions, I dont remember the cord having that much movement before.

Anyways, I assume that I have some sort of loose connection on what I would assume to be the power supply, but rather than just making a few asses out of u and me I'd like to ask someone who actually knows what theyre talkin about.

Any help is appreciated.

Just want to be clear, is there a lot of movement right where the power cord goes into the notebook - at the power jack?

I don't see what your power cord looks like so hard to say, but I have seen many power cords so badly twisted and turned at they practically have shorts within the cord.

cheers ...

from your explanations of the difficulty in connecting with mains i feel you have to change the mains cord with a new one..

a shorted mains cord would blow the fuse of the mains socket on the wall or sparks will fly from the cord shrted point

twisting the wire while connected to mains trying to get connected is dangerous. it can cause shock, fire, and mains blow out..
