Lenovo Y580 cant install fresh windows Setup was unable to create a new system partition

Hello, I havent been on here for a while and here I am again with a new problem.

I got my y580 laptop that came with a 1tb HD and a 32 gb SSD.

Naturally, the first thing i wanted to do was to install a fresh copy of windows 7.

I put all my drivers on a dvd, restarted the computer and went in windows 7 setup (not OEM version).

I formated the disk 1 partition (1tb hd), the 24gb SSD partition and I left the 6gb partition with hidden files needed for quick restore lenovo function.

PROBLEM:

after i formated the parition, I wanted to install new windows on the 1tb hd. However when I selected to install there I got the message that the partition is reserved by OEM.
I then deleted it and created a new one, however now i get the message " cor locate an existing system partition, see the setup log for more information".

Doing a google search I found that someone solved this problem by using cleandisk , but now that I cleaned it I now no longer see my msata hd. Everything got deleted and I m still getting the error message above.

If someone can please help me I would be grateful.

Thank You

Have you checked out BIOS settings, making sure that it recognizes the drive?

Hard disk 2 : ST1000LM024 HN-M101MBB

CD DVD ROM_ PLDS DVD RW DS8A8SH

It is recognized.

Just to be sure, do you still have this "or locate an existing system partition, see the setup log for more information" message?

Try using GPart Live CD to clean out the drive and set up a new partition, then try the installation again

This link has a simple instruction as how to delete OEM partition in Dell and Lenovo.

Anyway, try using GPart LiveCD and creating a new partition first before Windows installation

ok i tried removing oem partition from the link you gave me with no luck. Im still getting the same error message.

I am now using gparted and once i get in it, its only finding the msata drive 29gb. not the 1tb one ? what can i do??

EDIT: OK i found both hd within gparted but I need help with using the actual program. I think i created the partition for the 1tb hd, i restarted the computer with windows 7 but its still not letting me install windows. The same error msg is popping up argh!

Did you try this?

Sometimes, after you do something to the drive you need to refresh the partition windows for the drive to be re-read. There may still be something in the system stopping the process, I just don't have a lot of experience with laptops. But when you format the drive, you are just setting up one partition for Windows 7?

While you are on the partition window, you might try hitting Shift+F10 to get a command window. Then type Diskpart and when it starts, type:

list disk

select disk 0 <-- this assumes you only have one drive

detail disk

You should now see the partitions set up and the type of drive on the far right. If it says GPT, let us know. The partitions should be set as you expect, and if not you might want to go ahead and clean (see below) the drive or try again. Cleaning the drive will remove all data and partitions make sure you are looking at the correct drive...

If you are sure you have removed all the prior partitions and have nothing left to save, you can clean the drive by typing:

clean

When you are finished with Diskpart type Exit, Exit to get back to the partitions page. Refresh the window and try again.

Something just came through my mind. Did you disable UEFI in BIOS? winknudge.gif

yes it is disabled.

I created the partition using your program, did the clean up and its still not working.

I at least have both hard drives showing up now in the windows 7 setup again.

I used the program you gave me to create a new partition but i was constantly forgetting to allocate the drive to NTFS.

I then followed the steps to Clear the HD again from the post you gave me from another forum.

The ntfs was the key as well as removing the OEM lock you mentioned at the beginning.

The only problem now is that I deleted the files required for the one key recovery to work ;( Is there a way to re enabeling this ?

I am not sure about re-enabling it. There might be some guides and (file) on the net allowing to create a DOS disk with the necessary files

You mean you cannot access the msata drive from withing Windows? Try going into disk management and see if you can made the partition "active"
