Well. PCtorque tech support is baffled and so am I. I FINALLY get my new 8790 after 3+ weeks of waiting and it doesn't work. I got it without an OS mind you, but that's not why it doesn't work. Trying to install raid-0 and winxp. Everything goes fine up to the point of installing xp at which point it can't detect the hard drives and reboots. After reboot it goes to blank screen (after initial startup, memory check, etc.) It also WILL NOT TURN OFF. I can reboot forever with ctrl+alt+delete but nothing I do makes a difference. PCt said to check forums(which I have extensively) call sager tech support for a fix or an rma. (They aren't open till monday) Just wish these things were actually checked out before they leave. :/ Mayhap just a small bump and can be overcome WITHOUT an rma, but either way it seems i'm stuck till monday. This is awful.
P.S.- not a rant, just extremely distraught... oh, and there's a dead pixel. yay.

But none of it applied considering the computer wouldn't even turn off etc etc. (but I read it anyway). After I let the battery die and switched the switches back and forth (AGAIN) it started up fine. Had a bit of trouble with raid. For some reason even though I opted for no raid it was PRE setup for raid but only on ONE of the drives.. which is confusing to someone that's never set up raid before. Torque support was a bit confused as well but in the end I got a GOOD answer that so far seems to have solved all the problems. So to recap, the initial craziness was a gremlin. It happens, sometimes electronics just perform in ways that make absolutely no sense. XP is now installing and I'll let you know what happens from there. As for the dead pixel, with this new glossy hi res screen I have to look reaaaally hard to see it, so I'm not worried.(still gonna massage it till my fingers get tired). Here's to optimism.
