Acer Aspire One (KAV60) Blank Screen Problem

Thread Starter

I recieved this Acer Aspire One (KAV60) D250 from a friend about a year or so ago.  He says it had a monitor problem, which it does.  Had to get an a/c charger for it before since it didn't have it at the time.

Decided to get it up and running and give it to the girlfriend since I have way too many laptops as is (Alienware m11x r3, 2 more Alienware laptops, and Asus EEE PC netbook).  I'm no stranger to the IT world, but this problem has me stumped!

This computer started out with Windows XP.  Since then, I merely put Windows 7 on it and that's it.  No errors with incompatible drivers or anything that I've noticed.

My problem is this-I have a blank screen on the laptop.  The backlight works just fine, just no display.  But, I have display on an externally attached (VGA) monitor.

Here's a list of the troubleshooting I've done so far.  Some of these suggestions were from others who have had success from the web.

I've updated the BIOS (even though it was already on the current version) since a lot of people have reported similiar solutions with this.  I was able to do this under Windows XP since I've used an externally attached monitor.

I've swapped the screen connector that runs from the LCD panel to the motherboard.

I've also tried a total of three different LCD screens, all with the same result-blank screen, but the backlight works.  Two screens were from the same seller.  Third was from a different one so I don't believe that's an issue (could be wrong though).

I checked for bent pins on the connector at the motherboard and those look fine.

I think I've done all of the obvious suggestions so, if anyone has any more, please feel free to let me know.  I'll clarify things if need be as well.

Appreciate the help in advance.  Thank you!

By saying that back-light works, does this mean that you can point a flash light to the screen and see the display?

Are the screen replacements of the same part number or just "compatible"?

The screen replacement is I guess you would say compatible.  This is what is said about the screen.-"It is manufactured by a 3rd party manufacturer, not original.  The original manufacturer part number are provided for cross reference only, actual part number of product is different."

But, could it be three bum screens in a row?  Seems very unusual to me, though not impossible.  Especially when it comes to electronics.  How would I go about getting an actual Acer original screen if that could be the best solution?

As for the backlight, I cannot hold a flashlight up to the screen and see a display.  Just black is all I see.  I've tried to adjust the contrast (brightness) as well.

Search Amazon for Acer Aspire One (KAV60) LCD ... you can then probably order one of them using your OEM part number. I would give that another try before digging into other issues. Parts can come from a bad batch. 3 or 4 in a row is not abnormal, rare yes.

Okay, I was able to find a brand new one from a seller overseas that matches the same exact part number (N101L6-L02 REV.C2) and manufacturer (Chi-Mei) as the one that came out of the netbook to begin with.  I'm hoping to have an RMA number for this other screen very soon so I can send it back and have a refund worked out then, I can order the other one and cross my fingers.
