dell inspiron 1440 cpu & hard drive questions... any help is appreciated

Hi new to the forums here.. looking to learn a lil more about computers.. I have a dell inspiron 1440 notebook. As of now it has a Intel Pentium (R) dual core CPU  t4200 @ 2.00ghz, 500gb sata2 -3gb/as HD, 4gb RAM with a 64bit operating system..

My question is how or what upgrades will speed things up a bit..

Can i replace the cpu

Can i add a faster HD if so what kind..

I am in the process of buy memory so it will be maxed at 8gb.

I mainly use it for photo and video editing..

Thanks for any help or a point in the right direction..

Any 35W or lower Socket P CPU, including the T8100 and T8300. Maybe it is better to get a new comp with pricing so low at the moment.

As far as HDD, you can try replacing it with an SSD

Thanks so much for the help. I've been reading a lot and found a t9400 brand new in the box for 30bucks.. I called dell and the bios and system can handle it so should help a little..

Cool. Let us know how it works out for you. I am interested in seeing if that T9400 can really run on that board.

Hi flacraker. Seeing as your wanting to learn a bit about your machine and what upgrades are available, I suggest you download CPU-Z and run it (free). This will tell you what the CPU, Socket, and chipset (north and south bridge) are. With this info, go to the Intel site and find your north bridge chip, and then look at what CPU's are compatible with your north, south and socket combo.

Will do thanks for the info.. I will get that downloaded and get some more info before I tear down my inspiron and try this CPU.. looks like fun taking this hole thing apart just for the CPU. I will post back in a couple of days and let you all know how it went. Thanks for all your help.
