Qi (Pronounced as “Chee”) is a new universal standard for inductive charging established by the Wireless Power Consortium. It allows you to charge your smartphones, cameras, mp3 players and anything else that needs 5W or less without directly plugging the devices into anything.
Since it is an open-sourced, interoperable standard, it is very similar to other open standards like Bluetooth® and Wi-Fi™. Inductive charging uses electromagnetic fields to transfer energy from an inductive charging pad to a compatible receiver. For example, energy is transferred from Qi wireless charging pad to a Qi-enabled device.
The energy transfer starts when the charging pad is connected to a power supply; and the compatible receiver is placed on the pad.
So, How do I know if the device is Qi-enabled?
Check for the Qi logo on the device or its package. If there is a Qi logo, then it is a Qi-enabled device. Phones, cameras, remote controls, and all other portable electronic products carrying the Qi logo work with charging stations that carry the Qi logo.
