ASUS G-74SX optical drive

Up until about a month ago, drive was working flawlessly...when inserting a movie disk (havent watched on for about a month) I would get the window asking what I wished to do ie Play movie, etc and the movie would commence.
Today, tried the same thing..Green light for optical drive flashes for about2 mins then goes off...Cleaned the laser eye, DVD is new and works well in other laptop...uninstalled the optical drive and rebooted.. Device and driver re-installed....Dont know what in the heck could have happened to it..ideas..The laptop is about a year old..Oh yes, I also did a restore back to about 3 weeks ago..no change..

Can you swap with another optical drive from the other notebooks and try it out?

I suppose I could try that, but as a later resort..Figuring it had to be a settings screw up or something caused by a program or program deletion or update as I really havent done anything to it

I can see that the asking for which program to be used when loading up a disk content be attributed to some software malfunction, but just the light coming on and no activity is not pretty

Hardware and software!

Hardware

1. Motherboard have some problems.

2. Optical drive have some problems.

software

Maybe you need update your BIOS or burner software.

If your optical drive have trouble, you can purchase the replacement dvd for your G74SX laptop.

The other trouble, I do not know how to do?

Good luck.

Curious as to why you found my returning the laptop humorous???

Asus received the laptop on Christmas eve and today got word that it is being shipped to me via Purolator..not too bad of a turnaround considering it was holiday season..Just hope the problem is rectified and nothing else was screwed up...

Checked the Purolator update..laptop was in transit this morning from a city 3 hours away (2:30am), so should be in town about now...probably get it either today or tomorrow...
Although backups to data were done, hopefully they did screw with the HD and restore it...makes for a lot of extra work with just the updates...
