Acer Aspire 5560G black screen of death

Hi Guys

I am working on a Acer 5560G notebook which has the black screen of death.

I am pretty sure that it is a Bios corruption issue.

The power button lights up but will only produce a black screen with no post.

I downloaded the Bios flash and update from the Acer support downloads section but they only supply the dos and windows update version.

But without a screen to work with I cannot type in the commands, I have tried a external monitor both though the VGA and the DVI connection but both fail.

I rang Acer support and they said that they do not supply to the public the bios update that will run automatically by pressing the FN + ESC key together on boot up I have to send it to them so they can do it.

Nice gig for them I suppose but that is bad corporate thinking.

I have tried to renamed the Efildr16 to Efildr16.fd and also renaming it to suit the model 5560G which I have read on the net that you must do with there other Acer notebooks but without success pressing the  FN + ESC on boot up it reads the USB stick
flashes for 8 seconds and then stops.

The USB stick is formatted in Fat and the Bios update files are copied to the root.

I am not sure if any of you guys can help me or if any body knows what the Efildr16 should be rename to.

Acer seem to have this problem with a lot of there Notebooks.

So if anybody has this problem you are not alone.

Just wanted you guys to know were I am up to with this!!!

And yes the notebook is out of warranty I was going to buy a external USB floppy drive to boot into dos but I do not think this is going to work and fix the display problem.

Thanks Guys

I would try performing the blind BIOS flash with am USB Floppy Drive, not an USB stick. Better chance that the comp would read from the diskette drive than anything else

Hey Mogo,

Just wondering if you have made any progress with this issue. I have actually got the same issue with my Acer 5560g.

I have tried other remedies and was hoping this method works as i don't want to go out and waste money on a usb floppy drive!

Cheers
