HP Pavilion dv7-1070ee motherboard woes

Hi,

First time around, and while I'm not really a 'tech' person, I'll try to be as descriptive as possible smile.gif

I own a 2008 model HP Pavilion dv7-1070ee (from the Entertainment Notebook PC series). About 8 months ago I had to take it a repair shop to replace its faulty motherboard, which I did.

Now, the same problem has apparently cropped up again. Except that this time the service technicians haven't been able to get hold of the part. There are several import restrictions here in India, so it's near impossible (most of the time) for shops to source specific spare parts. Anyway, here are the laptop details

Product Number: FP868EA
Microprocessor: 2.53 GHz Intel Centrino 2 processor technology Intel Core 2 Duo Processor P9400
Microprocessor Cache: 6 MB Level 2 cache
Memory: 4096 MB (2 x 2048 MB)
Memory Max: Up to 8 GB
Video Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce 9600M GT
Video Memory: Up to 2303 MB (512 MB dedicated)

The machine originally ran Windows Vista (64-bit Home Premium). Since the last visit to the workshop, it's been on Windows 7. More details on the hp.com product page

Also, with a little googling, I found out that the motherboard part number is 480365-001

Source: HP PartSurfer and the HP Parts Store

The original motherboard may or may not be available at this point of time. So my question is, what are my options? Should I go in for a compatible Intel-only motherboard (as some have suggested) or is there something else I should look into?

Thanks in advance

P.S. A big HELLO to all you amazing people out there and Happy Holidays santa_smiley.gif

EDIT:
Oops, on second thought, I think I should have put this up in the HP, Compaq and Voodoo Notebook Forums. If any Admins happen to read this, could you please move this post to the appropriate section?

As far as replacement boards go, if you can find anything that is compatible and fitting the current chassis then go for it. HP itself might not be the only one that sells the boards, try expanding your search a bit more and see if you can get one OEM from a 3rd party somewhere else

Maybe even onEBay

Seems easy to find, 100 - 150$; cheapest from China/Hong Kong, but Amazon and Ebay etc. have lots of them, too.

Thanks everyone, I'll start searching right away smile.gif

Regarding the other query I had....

The on-board NVIDIA chip seems to be the root cause of the problem. According to the technician, it keeps heating/burning up. So should I opt for a compatible (and available) Intel-only board this time around?

Any suggestions are welcome. And thanks again!

nVidia used to have that type of GPU problem, but that was back in the 8xxx model. But GPU is known to blow motherboards, with any manufacturers

Thanks. I've tracked down some vendors for the board. Hopefully, the laptop will be up and running soon!
