M17- changing my boot drive from hdd to sshd? Any instructions/ advice please?

Hi,

Basically I'm a newbie with AW laptops and need some advice/ pointers please.

My new M17 is due to arrive early jan 2013, i ordered on impulse and now want to change the boot device when it arrives (before i start installing programs etc).

I ordered it with the 750gb 7200rpm + 32gb mSata caching SSD but today picked up a bargin 240gb SSD SATA 6Gbps.

What id like todo is change the config of my M17 when it arrives so it boots from my new SSD, i.e. 240gb SSD as main boot drive, 32gb mSata SSD caching and use the 750gb HDD for storage.

Is this advisible, will it make a difference, how easy is it to do? how do i go about doing it?

If anyone can point me in the direction of a step by step guide or any other instructions it would be greatly appriciated.

Thanks in advance

Clone the booting drive to the new one and swap it.

Thank you for your advice, fitting the new SSD was a doddle in the end, as for the rest of the laptop thats another story! So far Ive had a new motherboard, new graphics card fitted, spent countless hours with dells support team on the phone and home visits and nearly two months on I still havent got a fully working laptop, it keeps falling over asking for the 240W PSU that was supposedly supplied with the laptop instead I was given a 180W psu and have had this problem since day one yet dell/ Alienware refuse to swap it over dispite one of their own engineers witnessing the fault whilst he was here as advising that it definitly needs the higher power PSU.

Never again will i consider buying or recommendind any dell products, they are absoluty a waste of time and money imo, as for customer service, i dont think dell have heard of such a thing..... absolutly useless imo!

Keep pounding at them, hopefully you"ll get the correct PSU at the end. It's a shame, to say the least, arguing with customers over a PSU thumbdown.gif:

Dell is only good for corporate accounts (maybe not anymore).

What annoys me most is that after almost 2 months of pounding im getting no where, ive been polite and patient but got no where, it feels to me that after gaining a sale customer satisafaction goes out of the window, ive not got angry yet but getting close to the mark now, after spending over 2k you'd expect a little sympathy and understanding but everything falls on dead ears, they have my money and that seems to be all they care about, swapping the psu would be a minimal cost to them, the psu I have now can be tested and reused as a refub unit but they obviously dont care and dont even listen to their own engineers, my advice at the moment is if your considering buying Alienware... dont! Once they have your cash then customer satisfaction goes out the window. Alienware is now dell and dell is renowned for not giving a flying 'F' about thier customers once the money is in their account, its a shame as their computers have so much going for them but they let them selves down with their aftersales service.
