Laptop for Gaming

Thread Starter

I would like to know what the best laptop for gaming is without modification or upgrades. I would like it to be able to run games that require high performance such as Minecraft and Far Cry 3. My budget is around $800, maybe more. I don't really have a company preference.

Thanks for any help!

Look at the HP Envy DV7 line, with core i5 (or some other manufacturers with the comparable specs). It should do you fine

Thanks for the help! I was actually looking at the DV7 line a few months back ironically. I currently run a Dell Inspiron 1545 that is about 4-5 years old and only has a dual core, so this will definitely be a step up. smile.gif

Core i-5 with good GPU are quite cheap at the moment. Check around more for some good deals. Any brand preferences?

Well, I don't really have a brand preference. I just want a laptop that can handle games that require a lot of power and wouldn't be slow. I think HP would probably be the best way to go personally, but I probably don't know as much as you about computer internals. The only tech skills I have apply to airsoft guns. :p

If you think there are cheaper options that would work just as well (if not, better), then I would like to know. :)

It boils down to cost. I would look into the Lenovo IdeaPad Y580 lines, 500-600$ with an HD4000 and core i7. Solid machines and can handle Far Cry 3 very well

I think I may stick with the HP. I looked around and saw some reviews saying Lenovo is having some issues with customer service as well as quality control. All I see with the HP ENVY DV7t is good reviews.

I think I've changed my mind, hehe. I'm thinking of ordering from XoticPC. I'm not sure if my configuration will show up on the link, but I'll include the specs below just in case.

15.6” FHD 16:9 LED Backlit Wide screen (1920x1080) Super Clear Matte Type Screen
3rd Generation Intel® Ivy Bridge Core™ i7-3610QM (2.3GHz - 3.3GHz, 6MB Intel® Smart Cache, 45W Max TDP)

Stock OEM Thermal Compound ( IC Diamond Thermal Compound - CPU + GPU Provided FREE with Processor Upgrade!)

nVidia GeForce GT 650M 2,048MB PCI-Express GDDR5 DX11 w/ Optimus Technology

8GB DDR3 1600MHz [SKU-422AP] (CL11 Dual Channel Memory (2x4GB SODIMMS))

32GB Crucial Solid State mSATA III (Primary Drive w/ O.S. Installed)

750GB 5400RPM 8MB Cache Buffer (Serial-ATA II 3GB/s)

Windows 7 Home Premium - 64-Bit

I'd like anybody's opinion on XoticPC's service and the specs I've chosen. Thanks! smile.gif

EDIT: Also, is this forum dead? I haven't noticed too many members online often. :/

I would opt for a 7200rpm hdd and hold off on the ssd...you can add one later with greater capacity and most likely cheaper as well.
