Hey folks,

I'm having an issue with my 8850 notebook. i haven't tampered with any of the hardware. I returned from a few days vacation and I went to turn my notebook on.. no power to the screen, the caps, wifi, and bt leds frequently flashing, while an annoying beep is playing. this happens about 20-30 seconds after I boot it up. I tried removing hardware one at a time to see if I can even get BIOS POST. Any help would be appreciated.

Sorry, I should've posted that information. They're sometimes different but, for the most part they're short frequent beeps, after the gpu fan goes on high. Looping beeps.

Are you able to get into some sort of BIOS screen at all before the beep(s) come on? Hitting ESC or DEL at start up. Try also starting the system with just either battery or ac adapter alone?

I tried the battery alone, AC alone, and together, no go. I dont receive any power to the LED. I tried different keys that standard BIOS startups (F12, F2, F10, Del, etc) but nothing.

Using one stick of ram module at a time? In different slot?

I tried separate memory modules. Still nothing. I read up on more forums about overheating on the GPU/CPU. I took apart the heatsinks and the pictures are attached of the cleaned chips. I cleaned the tops with Isoproyl rubbing alcohol. Do any of these look burned or overheated maybe? I use arctic compound thermal paste to replace. Still the same result with the beeping.

They look fine to me. Time to bake the GPU, maybe?

OK, apparently it wasn't the CPU nor the GPU.

I tried reconnecting my battery, start it up with no AC connected, then 5 seconds later, connected the adapter,

voila, it works. I have no idea why but the combination got it to boot normally. I did reapply more thermal paste as well.

Thanks for your help though.
