Asus G50v Notebook screen problems

Hi. I have a Asus G50VM-X1. The specs are as followed:

Core 2 Duo T5750 2.0 Ghz

NVIDIA® GeForce® 9700M GT

4GB ram

500gb Seagate 5200rpm.

Windows 7 Ultimite

Okay it has a screen problem. Its not cracked and it all hooked up right. This is what is does: the screen does not work so i have an external monitor hooked up. When i close the laptop lid and reopen it The screen will light up but nothing shows up and the picture on my external monitor switches into a lower resolution, so i go into the screen resolution menu and select "detect" and the screen on the laptop turns back off and the resolution on my external monitor goes back to normal.

I dont know why it would do this and new screens are expensive.

All the video drivers are all up to date as well as the system.

Any advice? Thanks!

Could be just an inverter issue. Cheap to replace.

As far as losing the external resolution, check the configuration on the external monitor itself, or the user profile from your windows environment
