Compaq CQ50 weird Keyboard issue

I have been using this laptop - CQ50-142US for a couple of years.
One issue I have had since buying the laptop is the Quote keys don't work like they do in other PCs.
When I press Shift+Quote, nothing comes up. But when I press again, I get 2 quotes - ""
Same for single quote.

OS is Windows 7. Same issue when I was using Vista.

How does it work with an external keyboard?

Did you try cleaning under the keys? It sounds like there might be something causing the key to stick.

yep - and if cleaning does not work .. time to replace the keyboard itself

keyboard for a cq50 on ebay is like 10 bux max. I buy used usually, they cost less and are clean and fully functional, unless a new one is under 10 bux.
