If you can get an external drive enclosure like this http://www.ebay.ca/itm/2-5-INCH-IDE-HARD-DRIVE-ENCLOSURE-USB-2-0-EXTERNAL-CASE-BLACK-BOX-/390552565308?pt=US_Drive_Enclosures_Docks&hash=item5aeebf363c for whatever type HDD you are using from the Sony...probably SATA (it should say on the drive)..You would remove the HD from the Sony, remove the two mounting brackets when the HD is out..put the HD in the external case (be careful an make sure the head of the adapter goes on right so you dont bend the pins)..plug the external adapter into the Acer laptop and it will read as another drive..From there, you should be able to format the drive..When that is done, remove the drive from the adapter, remove the old drive from the Acer and remove its mounting brackets..put the acer mounting brackets on the "new Sony drive" and insert in the Acer laptop...NOTE: This will only work if both HDs are SATA or both drives are IDE. If not, I understand there are IDE to SATA adapters or SATA to IDE whichever way you are going...Hope this helps
