HP TX2-1025dx

Notebook did not reboot properly after a normal shutdown. It powers on to a blank black screen. The light codes from HP signify to reseat or replace the CPU. I reseated the CPU. Notebook booted several times normally, then hung on a restart. I used the power button to manually power off the computer and then restart. Upon restart, original condition: black blank screen, blinking lights signifying reseat or replace the CPU. I have now replaced the CPU and have the same condition: boots to black blank screen and blinking lights signifying to reseat or replace the CPU. I have also tried alternatively using the 2 individual RAM modules separately in each of the RAM slots, with no change in condition. I have also tested the hard drive for errors and viruses/other malware and it appears normal. Any ideas or suggestions? I appreciate any assistance.

Thank you,

Whadevah

Hi Whadevah,

Those symptoms to me scream motherboard or power issue. If it's the motherboard, you're basically roped into replacing the board whether from HP directly or third-party shops. HP will likely be expensive, you can usually find boards cheaper in the secondary market (depending on the age and popularity of the system).

The power issue could be harder to nail down. The behavior you're describing is similar to another HP system I tried to work on for a friend. The system basically was dead, it would power on but not boot up. I tried everything under the sun you can think of. Eventually I replaced the motherboard and it worked fine for several boots, then began to behave the same as before.

To this day I have not bothered to address it further and my friend just bought a new laptop to replace it after the failed board repair. Either the power adapter caused some kind of issue, or a bad battery/battery connection somewhere. Too much voltage on the wrong line and bam dead system. Or too little, even, in some cases.

Either way, I would START with looking at the motherboard as battery and power adapter defects aren't THAT common in my experience. At least, defects that lead to anything other than outright failure of the adapter or battery.

Hope that helps some!
