I am buying a laptop for college and many features are important to me (10-key number pad, backlit keyboard, performance, size/weight, <$900), but the most important is the longevity of the computer. I need the laptop to last all four years of college and still be able to run at a useful rate when I am graduating. My majors are business and computer engineering based, so I only need processing power for basic uses and some programming.
I am sure a low-voltage dual core i7 would be enough for me now, but I am not sure if it will hold up over the four years. Would it be worth it to spend more on a quad core system, or would the dual core still hold its own in 4 years if well maintained?
(If you are interested, the two laptops I am considering are this heavy powerful HP (http://goo.gl/nqvmB) and this lightweight, but slightly less powerful and non-backlit Samsung (http://goo.gl/ewtgv))
