I have a acer aspire 5552-3691. Its has a athlon II p340 cpu in it now but I want to upgrade to the phenom II n660. I bought what was supposed to be a new n660 off of amazon. installed but computer would not work. power light and fan is all that would come on. I removed the cpu and installed my original cpu. The computer fired right up. Did this a few times with same results so its not my installation of cpu thats the problem. My computer has latest bios from acer for its motherboard. I have seen some acer models with same chipset running this cpu so is it likely that the cpu got off amazon is just bad or is there a different bios i need to get it to boot up?
well i just found a geekbench score that had system specs attached to it. the system was exactly the same as mine but running the phenom n660 cpu. the motherboard was same as mine "je51_dn". Im not sure about memory though, wasn't listed in detail. The computer on geekbench was running a acer bios a couple versions older than my acer bios.
Im just learning this stuff but.. Its not too likely that an older bios for the same board would be able to boot a cpu that a newer bios couldn't..right?
Acer tech support told me the n660 is compatible with my laptop..I was just a little skeptical on if I was getting right info.lol I'm guessing its a bad cpu I have or either the ram situation you was talking about. the vendor that i bought the cpu from is sending another to me. If it doesn't work , then I guess its a compatibility issue.
