sp1 driver fix didn't work this time

I recently formated the HD on my Sager 4060, and reloaded a legit copy of XP (The same one I used the first time last September). As expected, the USB drives were recognized as 1.1 after reloading the OS. I expected sp1 to correct this problem as it had in the past, but no such luck. I have added all of the critical updates from MS, but the USB drives still think they are 1.1. Anyone know how to fix this?

Here is the USB driver info from my device manager:

USB Root Hub:
Driver Provider: MS
Driver Date: 7/1/2001
Driver Version: 5.1.2600.0
C:WINDOWS\system32\drivers\usbhub.sys
file version: 5.1.2600.1243 (xpsp2.030702-2125)
C:WINDOWS\system32\drivers\usbd.sys
file version: 5.1.2600.0 (xpclient010817-1148)

SiS 7001 PCI to USB Open Host Controler:
Driver Provider: MS
Driver Date: 7/1/2001
Driver Version: 5.1.2600.0
C:WINDOWS\system32\drivers\usbhub.sys
C:WINDOWS\system32\drivers\usbohci.sys
C:WINDOWS\system32\drivers\usbport.sys
file version for all 3 above: 5.1.2600.1243 (xpsp2.030702-2125)
C:WINDOWS\system32\drivers\usbport.sys
file version: 5.1.2600.0 (xpclient010817-1148)

I believe that they need to be deinstalled and then reinstalled for them to work properly.

Judging from the file names, the drivers installed now came with sp2. Unfortunately, MS update no longer lists sp1 or sp2 as a potential update, because I have already installed them. So, where can I get the drivers to reinstall for USB 2.0 support?

I think that you just uninstall them, then reboot, and the new equipment will be found and the drivers autoinstalled.

If you are quesy about this, don't do it, because if I am wrong, the USBs might not work.

I was under the impression that Service Pack 2 for XP was not yet available. Are you using an Alpha/Beta version of that Service Pack??

I believe that that 2.0 drivers are dated 6/1/2002 and not 7/1/2001; however, have the same version number.

I don't know why this USB 2.0 issue is becoming to happen more frequently, i guess many programmes or updates affect these drivers more than other ones ?

anyway I found this site for USB Drivers Problem:--->http://www.drivershq.com/?af=google&bn=5&type=usb

i didn't try it but u can try it for free.

I don't remember ever installing sp2. I don't even know if it exists. I assumed that the automatic updates installed it, because the driver file has "xpsp2" in its name. The date of the driver may be old, because it was saved to a disk long ago. I am running a department copy of XP pro. When we loaded the OS on my computer, we follwed it with sp1 from a disk-not an online update.

I will try to uninstall the drivers if I can't find a way to fix the problem in the next couple of days. Perhaps that driver site will help. I am a bit cautious about "free" anything though. I had to reload the OS because of something "free".

Fixed the problem. Sager tech support rules. I got 3 replies to e-mails in one day! IT turns out that the 4060 requires four SiS 7001 PCI to USB Open Host Controllers and 4 USB Root Hubs. No idea why only 3 were installed when I loaded the OS.
