IBM T41p parition problem

Thread Starter
hi guys

i got my ibm T41p (2373 GEH) with everything in late feb
i was using sony Z505 and R505 before this T41p, so partition
is my favourite.

however after i got my T41p, after installating partition magic and did a
15/45GB partition, i realised it is not compatiable with ibm rapid restore.
so i either have to give up rapid restore or partition, and i gave up partition in the end.

i was told my ibm i could either format the computer, do a partition through dos or something, then after that, press the ACESS IBM, and it will do a hidden recovery image on the C: and D: will
remain as a normal NTFS data drive.

has anyone tried that before ?

coz with t41p, due to the fact that they need to keep it a slim and light weight, there is just the ultra slim bay, and there is no extra ultra bay 2000 as an additional drive

does anyone know how to make partition in dos ? it needs the start up disk right ?

thanx in advance

Are you doing this with Windows XP? If so, its a breeze to do, and you dont need partision magic. Just do it manually after booting from the XP CD.

thx scott123, by doing so, if i put the windows xp cd in, what do i do next ?
is that the same as putting a boot up floppy disk and do FDISK and create a new partition ?

but some people says, even if i do a partition, but if i perform a recovery image from the "ACCESS IBM" button, it will erase the partition as well

what do you reckon ?

Is this for real?.... I have this HUGE fear that "restore" will wipe out everything I've installed to factory defaults --and have gotten conflicting answers from IBM tech support. I even bought a new (still unopened) XP Pro seat because of this concern... Until reading this, I Was going to totally reformat and install a pure XP -Pro (not OEM)....

I want my drive configured like

C:\System-IBM, Misc
D:\SwapFile
E:\Programs
F:\Data
G:\Scratch (set variables so all temp files, garbage, internet junk, and program scratch and bak files go here....)
H:\DVD Burn
X:\CD-DVD Burner

And if it doesn't toally wipe out everything I've created, perhaps I'd include a "Restore Partition" ...( it's still a big chunk of drive space)

But if I could have an "always up to date XP/IBM" restore that didn't destroy everything else I've created --assuming I back up the registry and Docs & Settings a few times a day.... Maybe it's a "good thing"....
