where did you order from?

this missing keystokes issue is really annoying me i canot use this laptop g556

plus i have a dead pixel in the middle of screen and they wont replace it

i will probably get this CL56 ... where to buy from?

is the keyboard springy, do you miss keystrokes?
is the fan EVER noisy?

TIA

I initially missed keystrokes around the "e" area.
I fixed it after playing around with the internals of my laptop.
I disconnected the keypad from the motherboard and reconnected it as firmly as possible.
After that everything was fine and dandy, no missed keystrokes.
Under general use you cannot hear a fan, you cannot hear any noise. Even in a dead quiet room like a cubical study room, you cannot hear anything.
I can only hear noise from the laptop if I stick my ear physically ontop of the laptop, then I can hear the HD whizzzing
Under gaming conditions a fan turns on and its not loud at all, very quiet

I ordered from Ibuypower, but keep in mind they dont carry Dothan and their dead pixel policy is 5 or more to replace. You do have 30 days to return it for a full refund no questions asked.

is there a way to transfer all programs and files from 1 hard-drive to another?

it takes like 8 hours to manually install all my files and programs and mailbox and stuff (i been testing comps DELL, HP, G556, and now it seems I will try CL56 and the VAIO S if it comes out soon enough)

I was wondering if the backup utility built into Windows allows for transfer of programs as well (like a disk image)

You can always hook them together via Ethernet and transfer them. Or buy an external Firewire or USB 2.0 hardrive enclosure to hook your drive to your new computer and copy that way. The latter is going to be faster than Ethernet, unless you have gigabit ethernet.

I mean copy programs and settings adn registry and shortcuts

etc etc

basically make an exact image of my hard drive now and copy it onto anoter...

all missed keys in this post are the reason why im sending g556 back

Well you should know I missed keystrokes around the 'e' area and I fixed it myself by opening up the laptop.
Maybe you could try the same with the ECS before returning it?

PLC:
For that, you should use Symantec Ghost

It sounds like you want Norton Ghost.

Does the warm air blowing at your mouse hand bother you at all?
It seems more rational to have the air vents primarily on the left or the back of the notebook, similar to most other notebooks. Maybe the designer was a lefty.

No it doesnt bother me at all because I dont keep my mouse/hand there... its too far away... I like to have my mouse closer to me and its not in that area where the exhaust is

rincewind could you show some benchmarks (gaming) with the laptop just on the battery?

Rincewind,

I noticed you had a wireless issue with your mitac 8335 from ibuypower, did you encounter the same wireless issue with your compal cl56?
