Hi, I've got an aspire 5738g that I'm trying to fix for my daughter. Problems started out with a refusal to power up even when LEDs were showing for the power jack, this was fixed by taking out the mains and battery power sources and then replacing them > power-up no problem (but a bit tedious). Eventually, it stopped powering up altogether and the power LED flickered when the power jack plug was fiddled with. So I replaced the power jack socket with a new one and now the blue line which goes into the circle LED on the power button lights up, the right hand LED of the two by the touchpad lights up too (initially orange then blue after a short time), I think this is a battery light? Anyway, it still won't power up, I've tried the RAM chips the HD, the DVD Drive and anything else I could unplug and plug back in again, also tried the holding down the power button with the battery and power jack removed, all with no success. Has anyone got any ideas? I really am very stuck and any help would be very much appreciated.
Aspire 5738g 'The often mentioned power-up issue'
Hi, thanks for your reply. No I haven't replaced the adapter because it's working fine, I know this because it powers either of my other 2 acer laptops just fine, I've also got spares already because of the adapters off the other two.
I'll search for 'baking the board' because I haven't heard of it in my life, I'll hazard a complete guess and say that it literally means baking the board in the oven?
Aha! Thought so. Seems like the soldering equivilent of hitting it with a hammer everywhere in case it helps but as a last resort I think I'll definately give it a shot. A guy I get parts off suggested it could be a fuse conected to the power jack that is the problem, I might see what fuse is there try changing it out if the fuse is only a few £. Thanks for the heads up on 'Baking'.
