Video: ATI BK-ATI VER008.017M.097.000 with Version: 6.14.10.6512 Date: 1/19/2005. This really improves the clarity and colors on the screen - or so it appears to me.

Highly recommended.
Better Sound, Really.
That would be great. Can I ask you to send me these.

Thank you very much G-Omaha.

I have forgotten where I downloaded the drivers from. I used links that were on this forum a couple of weeks ago. You might try searching - sorry.

If you are talking about what I references, it was "download" and install. Nothing special to it.
no i just want to say if the HD codecs will work with ac97 chipsets?

If you are talking about the ones that I installed, they work well.

Install of the hd audio codecs failed for me, with following message ''Microsoft bus driver needed before proceeding with install''

Version 01.00.10 (notice exact - not something) is needed for the Fn+F10 "High Speed Fans" to work. That is the version that I have. If you received you machine before aroung Oct 1st, 2004, then you might not have the correct BIOS. I have the ISO - if you need it just PM me and let me know your email address and I'll send it to you.

G, can you please send me the bios update. luabad@adelbras.com

Where did you get the driver version VER008.017M.097.000 for the 9700. I can't find this version. I've installed the catalyst 5.3 and I'm not able to play videos anymore. I rolled back the the sagers and cannot play either. Any suggestion? Thanks

OK, it's been over a year. Still running very well - as good as the day that I got it.

I have recently wired this laptop to my server via hardwire using the 1 GB connection. So far have had real good results.

First Real Problem - IEEE1394 Plug is Kaput/Gebbroken!!!

For the past several weeks, the componets that I have been connecting to the IEEE1395 (Firewire) plug on the front of this machine have been misbehaving to one degree or another. Today, the little "plastic/rubber" plug that is internal to the adapter came off and lodged in the cable side connector. I initially didn't notice this and when I swapped cables, WHAM.. Nothing worked anymore. Looks like the pins are bent all to H*** (or broken) and the plug on the laptop is totally unusable. I have an exended warranty; however, think that I will wait a while before sending it in for repair as I have a ton of work scheduled and don't want to be inconvienced by the loss of this machine.

Sure is a bummer because I use the IEEE1394 to connect to various 16x DVD writers and my backup HDD devices. Now, forced to use the USB 2.0 interface, I will only be able to enjoy 12/14x speeds and realize a two minute slowdown when writing DVDs. Backup speeds are also much slower.

Sorry to hear that your machine finally had a breakdown Good to hear that you've been able to go so long and have it work solidly for you, though.

Hopefully the extended warranty bit won't be too much of a fuss. I'm anxious to see how that all turns out.

While I really like the IEEE1394 interface (can actually get 16x write speeds on external DVD-R/+R media), I will not be "sending it in" until something more serious comes up. I'd like to; but, it's not like it's next door and I'll have the unit back in a day or two. I'll let everyone know what the outcome is when I do submit the Philips Warranty.

Cheers

no artifacting yet? i hope you stay with a good machine
post #159 of 217
I have had mine for a year and a half now, no artifacting, and I regularly overclock. My computer is on at least 12 hours a day (sometimes longer) for that entire time! I have never even had to reinstall the OS! Great computer! Sometimes my LCD switch fails and the LCD does not work, but I just jiggle it with a pen and it eventually triggers it... I hope that little switch never breaks completely... such a pain for such a simple item.

Nothing so far, except as indicated.

I did have a sporatic problem with the wiren LAN card in that from time to time it disconnected. After a lot of efforts I found that the reason for the disconnect was the falt of the "Server" that I have. It likes to power down every now and then and then strange things happen there after.

I schedule "Preventative Maintenance" monthly. This entails blowing out the exhaust system with canned air, cleaning out the area under the keyboard, and also everywhere that is easily acessable (mem/hdd etc... areas). I also discharge (gently) and recharge the battery. The battery is now giving me about 35/40 minutes of use playing a DVD - full volume and screen brightness.

I also run mobmeter when I am about to execure intense applications and turn the fans to "turbo mode [Fn+F10]" when the unit starts to heat up. Actually, I can tell when that is happening by the sound of the current fan activity even without Mobmeter.

Like you, I am hoping that the unit does not "crap out" like many of the other earlier units; however, I did purchase a 3 year extended Phillips warranty - just in case it does.
