But I'm waiting for ABS to update their zForce F2. ABS is a much better company than iBUYPOWER from what I've heard.
The man speaks wise words!

I was originally going to go with the CX6 but I see that the only difference between the two is the 15.4" WXGA screen and 15" SXGA screen. The paint job on the Aopen 1557G was the true selling point for me. Does ABS offer paint jobs? As for ibuypower, I know rince and klas have ordered the CL56 from them without any issues. Are you just looking for a better warranty?

Im also getting this model. 2.0 dothan and 128mb 9700 with SXGA+ screen for 2000 bucks flat, very hard to beat.

Yes, it truly is a great price. Although Im ordering it with 1.7GHz PM. The 2.0 Dothan is simply such a waste of money at the moment. If I were you riggs, I would order it with the 1.5GHz and just upgrade to a 2.0 after the price goes down. You'll definitely see a price drop after the 533mhz bus speed dothans are released. If you're paying only $2000 I guess you're not getting the 7200rpm HDD. IMO, that's not a good move, that faster hard drive really helps performance. Seriously, don't get the 2.0 unless you seriously need the performance now, it's just way overpriced.

Performance increase from 5400 to 7200 RPM is minimal and I do not plan to do any hard drive intensive activities so I cannot really justify getting it. And as for the 2.0 dothan, this baby has to last me 4 years and I cannot really see myself installing a new processor myself so I said screw it and went for it. That Sony A series 15 incher is still in the back of my mind though. A good screen goes a long way.

Who are you ordering from? Are you going to go with ibuypower or wait for the F2 to witness an upgrade?
Ibuypower. From what I have read ABS has very good ratings, but its not enough of a difference to make me wait, especially since there is set no date when the upgraded F2 is making its debut that I know of.
ABS and iBUYPOWER are probably going to start shipping the notebook at the same time. The only difference is that ABS isn't advertising a product they can't ship yet.

FWIW, IBuyPower emailed me today and told me they were getting the Dothan 1.7 Compals next week.
i spoke to steve over at ibuypower about how these changs occured 2 weeks after i got my laptop he said i would have the option of bein credited the price difference, or an option to get a 1.7 dothan at no extra charge or the ability to get the latest processor upgrade since i was still under my 30 day refund policy....

thats good cs right there

you lucky consumer!
This just supports the fact that ibuypower is a very reliable and helpful company to order from.
Sweet.

What are you going to do?
might get 2.0 dothan !

or 1.7 dothan

donno yet
Dude, if you get a 2.0, your system will simply be incredible. I mean, look at the benchmark scores your putting out now. I can't even imagine what a 2.0 would do!
i was planning to get 2.0 dothan when it dropped down in price

but then realized i'd have wasted the $$$ i spent getting a 1.7

since i prolly couldnt sell it anywhere near as what I paid for it

man i cant wait till the optical drive battery comes out

this lappy already gets 4.5 hours gen use... with another 3 hours that would be up to 7-8 hours !!!

crazy

i only use my DVD to watch movies and install stuff
i have no cd cracks for all my games...
Looks like you're going Dothan one way or another.
Which would use less energy? Viewing movies from a compressed file (DivX, WMV, etc) on a hard drive or from an optical disk?

I've been reading all the laptop reviews i can get my hands on for the last 3-4 months and it's awesome to see these machines coming out with everything i'm looking for (centrino/9700/15in sxga+/7200rpm hdd etc). This machine will be going to school with me and needs to last as long as possible...

I'm ready to order the machine, and am looking at the cl-56 and the "e-turbo series." The only thing holding me back at this point is the screen quality, I guess i'd like to hear from rincewind or another current owner: Would you recommend getting this laptop despite your/others issues with the screen?
the issue with this screen isnt really an issue at all once you have it and see it yourself...

unless you *must* have a sony xbrite or any other high gloss screen (new 17" sagers, new 17" hps, fujitsu screen, sager 4080, etc), this lcd will never live up to your expectations

ive tried my best to properly represent the screen... its the same as far as I can tell to my mitac8335 15.1" screen in every aspect. i oddly got 0 dead pixels on both too, lol. but aside from that from what i gather on other folks' review with their 15.1" sxga+ screens... they all say the same thing, limited vert viewing angles, only best viewed at sweet spot, etc

while id love to have a high gloss screen to make it vibrant and look just like a CRT, i have to have realistic expectations coz this afterall is an LCD screen..
and it just so happened to have everything else i needed/wanted at my target budget
