The Dell's look cheap! - Page 2

I'm glad you like the AW. They are pretty sweet looking. I do wish you could get the XPS in custom colors. My brother is thinking of getting one. They have that 9 months same as cash deal that is tempting him in getting one.

But for me my XPS fits my bill way better for what I need.

Yes it might only be a "smidge" faster but for me some of the selling points was better screen (WUXGA 1920x1200 resolution) comes in great working with AutoCAD, Visio etc etc. Better warranty (3yr in house next business day with accidental damage coverage). Integrated Bluetooth. Dual-Channel memory. And my XPS was about $700 less than your Alienware was

I also work for the DOD and sitting in on briefing with Colonels and Generals the XPS looks so much more professional and business like on the briefing table than the Alienware would with the extreme colors and glowing eyes

It totally blows through games. Even if one of your guys's dells is a shade faster, i can care less. I have a much better looking notebook. It doesn't have that cheap plastic look to it.
I am glad you like the AW, the extra couple hundreds is worth it too.

No, its no painting mod. Like DM suggested when he threw up the name of his and his friends lappy..... Quicksilver is just what I call mine and what it is identified as on my network. I think its quite appropriate and cool anyway.......

I don't know much about Alienware as they are not available in Australia, Does yours have a Subwoofer built in? I like the idea of the metal chassis, but you pay for it. Yours is a full $1100 more than mine. I like the silver one on the website, but not sure how long I could live with the blue or the green. Are the black areas on the lid Rubber??

If the black areas are really rubber, its not the type of of rubber that most of us think of. Its more like the black material on Logitech MX500 mouse. As for a subwoofer, alienware doesn't put those on their notebooks. However, I do have to admit the speakers are pretty good. Even though their notebooks are more expensive than the ones sold my a lot of other companies, I wouldn't trade mine for anything. Its definetly worth the cost.

I know what you mean about the black rubber, The Alienware would make a nice enthuisiast's or gamers Laptop, but I sometimes use mine for presentations to High ranking Police Officers, and I think I would lose credibility turning up at Police HQ with an Alien Green or Blue Lappy, Even the Silver one might look a bit out of place. Wheras the 9100 looks professional and totally business like. And the size of it just adds weight (no pun intended ) to the impact of the presentations...

you know, you got a good point there. As much as i love my bright green alienware, its not a business computer lol.
LOL, Yes However I'd love to turn up at a LAN party with a Green Alien Lappy! That would cause a stir.
yeah, i've already got 500000 questions about what it is lol
post #32 of 81
I also have green alien and llove it.

If the XPS was a tad thinner and i dunno how to put this, a bit more "un-dellish" I would have surely gone with it instead of AW.

You mean their ugly notebook design?
Well, I like Dell's desktop thou. Pretty sleek. Why can't their notebook designer work with the desktop? They can learn a few things about aesthetics.

Ugly is just your opinion, beauty is in the eye of the beholder! :-)

Exactly why I ordered an M60. I ordered the 8600s for my kids. At 52, I still am a big gamer and the M60 was the only answer for me.

I have to agree with you there. My first Inspiron that I tried out was a I8000 machine and I returned it the next day. I couldn't believe how cheap it felt. I mean with just the slightest push on the plastic, the stuff would like bend, lol. I have also tried the I8100, was not impressed either. In my opinion. Compaq makes the best designs out there, aside from Apple. Right now I'm trying to decide on whether I want to buy a Presario 3000 series or a Dell Inspiron 8600 series and my decision is not being made easily Why doesn't Dell get with the program and build these machines more sturdy with better parts? I mean a lot of you have commented on how you don't buy a computer because of its looks, but because of how it performs, part of this is true but if I'm going to to spend 2 or 3 grand on an electronic equipment, it's going to look just as good as it performs, yeh? I mean would you buy a 40 thousand dollar car just because it performed well if it looked like crap? I certainly hope not.

Again, that is just your opinion, I think the Dells are the best looking lappys on the market!
