Yeah... Put a freakin rocket on it! You have the most tweaked out comp there is methinks...

Agreed. If I put a rocket in my POS Compaq, it would still lag behind an AW.

Im in the same situation Jam I think i have teaked this thing as far as it can go even down to replacing the exploer shell for a new smaller faster one. The aston.exe is only 3,000kb compared to exploere.exe 16,000kb starts up faster and is alot more flexiible in the ways you can format it its a littel strange at fiirst but you can ge the hang of it quickly!

yeah brain, i went to ashton but then i wanted to hack my start button so i went back to explorer....

i just want to have the absolute cleanest system possible that runs nothing but the essentials...

if i have a 1 byte file i dont use i want to hunt it down and delete it!

how many processes do you runa t start up(i.e. whats the read on task manager when you boot up... include multiple instances of svchost)

can you hack the start button with ashton? i put the computername as the start button on all my computers... amkes life easier when using the kvm switch!

** EDIT ** speaking of which anyway to tell whihc instances of svchost are doing what?

If you are looking for an alternate shell with a smaller footprint than exploder, try litestep out.......very nice, fully configurable and COMPLETELY free. Nothing like OSS.

just an FYI...

after some research if you type:
Tasklist /svc

at the ccommand prompt it will tell you which DLL's/processes are being run by each instance of svchost.

lol I have 31 processes running at startup. I guess I'll check into getting rid of some of them.

blackviper.com

tells you exactly what process you do and dont need running at startup...

and there is not 1 program you need running at start-up.

That is a very cool site! I saw it in the tweaking thread but didn't think I would use it until now when you said you can boot up in 24 seconds lol. I timed mine and it took 48 seconds before tweaking and 38 after. Still nothing close to yours and i still have 28 processes running at startup so I guess I will go back through the list and take more services out.

Just checking over the list of services agian and ccApp and svchost are pretty big!

I use this

Winpatrol
http://download.com.com/3000-8022-10...ml?tag=lst-0-1

It will let you know what is runign at start up and let you remove or disable it.

You can also go to blackviper.com and follow the guide for the services and it tells you how, and what to disable. It really helped me out
