Here's the thing: I'm in graphic/web design buissness, multimedia and music production (so advice on good external audio card would be apricieted too).
What I need:
Minimum 2.8 Ghz proc.
Expandable memory pos.
Very good graphic card (the best one...?)
The bigger resolution ("), the better
DVD-RW...

I found theese two in my area (Europe-Austria,Croatia):
Gericom Hollywood
ACER ASPIRE 1714 SMI

Price: lower than 3000$

Thnx for any input

Best graphics card : Ati Radeon 9700
A nice high resolution would be UXGA (1600x1200).
Sager's 5690 is a powerful machine at a good price.

As for external audio, the Creative Extigy is very good. A company I used to work for used those exclusively.

extigy is outdated, USB1.1-based technology, and takes a lot of CPU cycle .. the best of the best external soundcard atm is the audigy nx; check out tom's hardware reviews of external soundcards.

as for laptop of your spec,
sager 5690 seems to fit in every aspect you need (except that you're in Europe which I have no idea whether you pctorque ships to or not).
another option is dell 9100, but that machine has a long waiting period and some screen issues (people get different screens, some get samsung which is the best, others get hitachi).

also, how important is battery life to you?

2 or 3 choices...

thnx for advices
I don't think that I can get Sager 5690 or any Sager for that matter cause none of the pc shops has it here in Croatia...
I think this is a great deal:

ACER ASPIRE 1714
P4 Prescott 3,4 GHz
120GB HDD
1024 MB DDR-RAM
17" 1280x1024 mx
DVD--RW/CD-RW
nVidia GeFofce FX Go5700 - 128 MB
Win XP.......

price: 2000 Euro = around 2000/2500$

Or this:

Fujitsu-Siemens Amilo D-1840
Intel Pentium 4 3.0GHz (800MHz FSB, HT)
15.4 TFT WXGA (1280x800 max)
ATI Mobility RADEON 9600 128MB
512MB (max. 2GB)
80GB HDD
DVD+R

price: 2000/2200$

...any suggestions?

Are you aware that Acer Aspire 1700 series weighs over 15 lbs (7 kg)? You may want to consider getting a lighter laptop and an external monitor instead.

How about Acer Ferrari 3200? I have only concerns about how hot it will run with all those things inside.
You may also want to consider IBM and HP: IBM t41p (128 MB MR 9600 / FireGLT2), HP nc8000 (64 MB MR 9600) or HP nw8000 (128 MB MR 9600 / FireGL T2, 1600x1200). Note that you are paying some extra for quality.
