well, i figured out how to get the laptop to stop going to 640x480 when i close lid

I hooked up an alternate monitor, closed the lid, sure enough it goes to 640x480

have a mouse hooked up to it, change it to another res, and it'll keep the setting for the next time you close the lid.

nice not having my desktop icons mucked up all the time now

Another solution could have been to set the Ati HotKey Poller service to manual.

Navigate to Control Panel/Administrative Tools/Services:



Adjust the Ati HotKey Poller startup type from Automatic to Manual:



Promptly reboot and next time you close/open your notebook lid, the resolution will not automatically resize anymore.

Thanks for the tip and directions. Of course it isn't under the Display Control Panel like you would think it would be.
