Battery life and performance question

Thread Starter
Hadn't really noticed until I looked at the build sheet that the 9100's come with a 2.8E (Prescott) cpu.

These generate more heat and use more power then the northwood cpu's.

Anyone tried putting in a Desktop Northwood or Mobile P4 (available up to 3.2ghz in mobile format) and seeing how it affects battery life and performance?

Just trying to get my mind off the screen issues

I have the 2.8C that I pulled from my 400SC. Maybe I'll throw it in and do a comparison. How hard is it to get to the CPU? I know there's instructions available here somewhere. Will it void my warranty?

The P4 mobile CPU's fit in a 9100? Sweet, might have to do that and sell the 2.8ghz prescott on ebay.
But the fastest mobiles I have seen on pricewatch are 1.8ghz. Where are the faster ones?

From http://docs.us.dell.com/docs/systems...al.htm#1000001

Follow the instructions in "Preparing to Work Inside the Computer."
Remove the left, right, and center hinge covers.
Remove the keyboard.
Remove the display assembly.
Remove the keyboard bracket.
Remove the video card.
Loosen in consecutive order the four captive screws, labeled "1" through "4," that secure the microprocessor thermal-cooling assembly to the system board.

Lift up the microprocessor thermal-cooling assembly and remove it from the system board.

Doesn't look too hard. Don't know about warranty's, should be fine as long as you don't break anything in there.

Not sure where to get the higher speed p4 mobiles, but found this intel spec sheet with the OEM order number on it.
