Scroll function going nuts in games

Last night I tested several games, and I noticed when a mouse is plugged in, playing some games, the scroll function would start going crazy. For example, in BF1942, the scroll lets you cycle through weapons. Well, all of a sudden it's cycling through the weapons non stop at high speed. It won't stop until I exit the game. It did the same thing in BF: Vietnam and Painkiller. I changed to a different mouse and it did the same after a little while. And this is plugged in the ps2 mouse port, not USB.
Anyone have this problem?

i just recently got a microsoft intellimouse explorer 4.0 and i had the very same issue. cycles through the weapons super fast in Desert Combat. i checked out mouse properties in control panel, and indeed there is a setting for Accelerated Scrolling, the idea being it scrolls fast as you turn the wheel faster. i really like this feature for just regular desktop stuff, so i left it turned on, just turned down a little bit. hope this helps
