Fixing Linux ATi Drivers... need vsync + hsync :)

hey all...

I am posting this in general as it is meant to solve a specific linux problem which requires help from more than the current linux base we have here and also the answer is not linux specific

I have been workin on trying to get the binary ati drivers to work on linux for ages now... and after weedin through the internet. I found a guy with the same problem:

I had the same problem with my Compaq Presario 2811EA notebook with a
radeon 7500 mobility. The XFConfig86 on
http://www.mobilix.org/compaq_presario2800.html solved this...thanks!! I
think the radeon driver's not able to detect the vsync, hsync of the TFT
correctly, that's why the screen looks so strange. You must get the
exact vsync, hsync values of your TFT from somewhere....
So... thats what I need... tried to find it under windows... but windows uses a default display driver which apparently does not have any driver info...

So, does any1 know what the vsync + hsync of a sager 8886 screen is?

Subject: Vsync and Hsync

Dear sir,

I am currently trying to get my sager to work under linux with the ati
binary drivers,
I have tired serveral times under several distros and have been unable to.
I then searched the net, and looked at logs and found it to be a problem
with the drivers dectecting the wrong vsync and hsync of the screen
(therefore giving me what I can only describe as a funny 3d winamp
visulation.)
I know that the 4.3 DRM drivers for ati work fine, but they are not as fast
and do not have UT 2003 support

I was hoping you could send me the exact vsync and hsync (overall range and
at different resolutions) for my Sager 8886 with default screen. (15.7"
Active Matrix Display) ASAP

Thank-you for your time

Paul Mac Farland
I have made a reply saying it isn't a linux specific answer... I have yet to get a reply :S

Hi Paul,

You are NeoCORE from the forums, right? First I went to the forums to see
if there was anything posted that would answer your question, and then I
realized that if there were, you would probably know even better than I.

I assume that what you need are detailed hardware specifications for either
the LCD itself or for the Radeon Mobility 9000. I also assume that a
cursory look at the websites of both has not turned up what you need. I am
afraid we are not privy to such details either. What is necessary is to
contact Sager and/or ATI and request this info from one of their techs. If
you do this, I'm sure other forum readers would be very grateful for this
info to be passed along.

Let me know if there's anything else we can help with.

Thanks,
