SonyA or Fragbook??

Well I decided I am either going to get the Sony A or the Fragbook. I read alot about the A on the forums and other various places, but not the Fragbook. What do you all have to say about these two choices?
Which frag book are you talking about? One of them is a Clevo..... "Sager"

No the Fragbook from FalconNorthWest.

...

Why didnt you answer my question? Yes I know falcon sells a notebook, but you my friend, apparently do not know that it is a Clevo notebook. (1 of the 2 is). SO answer... which of the two fragbooks are you looking at? The P-M one, or the P4 one?
Right the reseller is Falcon Northwest but the ODM is Clevo on the one with a Pentium 4 in it, and the ODM for the one with a Pentium M is Compal.

You can get both of those machines from other resellers for less money, but Falcon Northwest does some nice things for that extra money. Such as a paint job, no dead pixel guarantee included, great warranty, and good customer service.

Rincewind wrote up a review on the Pentium M based Fragbook, its called the Compal CL56. There are also several other reviews on the Pentium 4 based Fragbook, which is called the Sager 8790, or Hypersonic GX7.

If you stick with your current two choices Falcon NW or Sony I would say make the choice based on price/what you get because you will be very happy with the service you get from both of those companies.

WOW I didnt know Falcon-NW was a reseller of the fragbook, ill have to look into those. But for the extra stuff from Falcon-NW, they also give you that awsome aluminum brief-case.http://falcon-nw.com/fragbook.asp
post #7 of 22
You can buy that aluminum brief-case from other places online.

Falcon-NW is a reseller of the fragbook?!

Falcon-NW is a seller of Clevo a clevo notebook. We do not know if they buy directly from Clevo or if they resell from Sager. Look the bottom line is... Falcon-NW does not make their own notebooks. The notebooks that they sell, you can buy from other places, for cheaper prices, but the warranty will differ.

AHHH, thanks for clearing that up. And its the P M one,sry didnt see that.

So if you want to have your question answered... first you must tell us what Falcon-NW notebook you were talking about. The one with the Pentium-M, or the one with the Pentium 4. You see, F-NW sells two different Fragbooks. Which one are you talking about?

Also, you must tell us the specs of the notebooks so we can tell you "go with this one", or "go with the other one" or blah blah blah.

Here are the specs:
Intel® Pentium® M Processor 735 (1.70AGHz, 2MB L2 Cache)
40GB (4200rpm)
1GB (512 MB x 2/DDR 333)
15" SXGA
I am getting a external card,so no need for the internal one.
Combo DVD drive

These are the same specs for both. Sorry this wasent all taken care of in the original post. If you need any more info just tell me.

yikes. i'd say either drop down to the 1.6 or 1.7 banias p-m or to 512 ram and get a better hard drive. if you get 4200rpm you'll probably end up murdering your dog or something.
Well if both notebooks have the same specs... then you have to stark looking at other things to take into consideration. Price, weight, screen, looks....
how large is the screen on the Sony A?
How much does it cost?
what are the specs?

Why would end up killing my dog?? I dont really need a fast and big hard drive.

The hard drive is the biggest bottle neck in the computer. A slow hard drive slows everything down. Your load times, file transfers, program accessing, vitrual memory file swapping, multi-tasking, etc... a 4200 rpm should not even be considered in a 'high-end' top of the line notebook.

one more thing. The 4200 rpms run hotter than the 7200 rpm ones.

Ok,now here comes the problem, the Sony A only has 4200rpm hard drives, except the 80gb which has 5400rpm. I dont really need a 80gb hard drive and the 5400 would still be to slow.So would i be able to take the old one out and put a faster one in?
more than likely the answer is yes. The hard drive is usually the easiest thing to upgrade on a laptop. You'll have to check with the Sony's specks to see how it is done though. I would recommend the Hitachi TravelStar E7K60 Hard Drive 40 Gig at 7200 rpm. There is also a 60Gig verson out there also.

This is the best drive you can currently get in a note book. These drives run cool and are designed to run under constant 24/7 use.

You can buy it for about $150 at new egg.

First you say that which I quoted above, and then now 5400 rpm isnt fast enough for you?

Have to get your priorities straight before paying 1000+ on a notebook!

Since it seems you really arent that educated/knowledgeable in notebooks, and the stuff that is pertinent to them, and since we are discussing HDDs at the moment... you might want to take a couple of minutes to read this article:

It might help you make up your mind.
