Okies, i am gonna give ya a hand considering LR-s is harder than ANY distro out there. This is LFS. By the way, i am installing it native next week.
Alsa, you need to :
- run the ./snddevices script as root located in the alsa-driver source directory after installing all packages ( driver, lib and tools ).
- then run as root :
chmod 666 /dev/mixer /dev/dsp /dev/sequencer /dev/midi
-Then as root launch alsamixer and unmute the channels in the ncurses interface. M to unmute and arrows for Plus or minus and changinbg fields. When desired levels have been adjusted press ESC.
-Then save your mixer settings by running :
alsactl store as root
alsactl restore will bring back the settings previuosly stored.
Register ? Um no registrations.
USB devices if compiled in the kernel or as modules loaded at boot will identify themselves. For a usb mouse you need in the kernel or as module :
The Alsa modules will register the sound card to the kernel.
cdrom is probed from the IDE bus and identified.
Now, 2 advices:
This is LFS ort Linux From Scratch which means this distro has no default configuration files and no preset. You are gonna need to write your own profiles files as well as /etc/fstab, which should contain a line about how the kernel is gonna mount the cdrom.
If ya want to mount it, try this:
# mkdir /cdrom
# mount -t iso9660 /dev/hdc /cdrom
Great courage you had installing this i wish you good luck. Remember man. man fstab will tell ya how to set up your /etc/fstab file.
PS: I hope ya followed the Alsa how to on their site as alsa requires all step to be followed in the right order. If not erase all your modules, your sources trees, re untar and start from scratch.
