IBM discounts???

I am going to the University of Florida next year and am planning on purchasing an IBM T41 (1.6 Ghz, 512 Mb RAM, a/b/g wireless, 40 GB 5400 RPB HDD).

I am purchasing it through the Employee Purchase Program, which is a 15-20% discount, but of course, any other discounts would be helpful. I have read about student discounts, how do these work? Is it through participating schools?

Thanks for the help.

I am also looking at purchasing an IBM. Are you an IBM employee, if not how are you purchasing through the employee discount. I would like to get that discount too. TIA.

I just purchased one (2378-DXU) through the shareholder purchase dept. Received a 15% discount. I don't think that you can combine dicounts. Your employee discount is probably the best you can do.

No, the Employee Purchase Program (EPP) offers: "Discounted pricing for IBM U.S. employees, their family and friends." (straight from the IBM website)

I figured I probably couldn't combine discounts, but it was worth a shot.

My girlfriend has an aunt that works for IBM. The discount levels the field with other similar notebooks such as the Dell 600m and the Gateway 200X(L). Before, the IBM was about $2-400 more with similar specs, dimensions, and weight, now they are all within about $100 of each other, and from what I can tell through reviews and upclose, inperson inspections, the IBM seems to have the edge over the other two in build quality/ruggedness. Plus other little features like the little keyboard light, built in wireless antenna along the edges of the monitor, metal hinges, and hard drive protection system, put the IBM above the rest in my eyes.

Is there any better thin and light notebook with similar specs as outlined in the original post?

Shareholders also get some pretty good discounts.
And it's vey easy to become one.
You can even set up direct withdrawls each month from your checking account to purchase stock.
This is what I did and still doing it. Your amount of stock accumulates rather quickly. And as soon as you become a shareholder you get the discount no minimum amount needed.
I am purchasing an X40 this way. I will be getting the 23718LU
regular web price of $2299 for $1954
Plus you get all of the accessories and such at discounts too.
As well exclusive IBM logo merchandise.

Check with the bookstore at Florida. They may have a better price than the EPP. I know that some of the NC and Louisiana universities get substantial discounts that make the 15-20 % pale in comparison.
