ATI 9600 Users, Me need some help.

Hello everyone!

Im an Nvidia users. Personaly.

But due to constant over heating, I figure Ill try the ati card. So I ordered the 9600 Pro from AW.

Runs much cooler IMO. But I noticed in the my games they are increasingly choppy over the 5600 GO. I disabled all the mumbo-jumbo in the settings, and placed everything to "Performance". I used the AW 7.96 DRVs Got 2041 in 3dmarks 04. Then I tried the Omega(After tweaking the preformance options. And got 2267 in 3dmarks 04. I was geting 2411 with the nvida card. Am I doing something wrong?

Then I viewed this thread http://notebookforums.com/showthread...I+AGP+settings .

Noticed my Card is set to 4x agp. Any time I enable it to 8 X windows freezes. I tried it through the Driver utility and the SMartguard in the omega drvs.

Any help is greatly appreciated. I searched, I either came up with confusing results, or unless information based on my situation.

Hmm...I duno what might be wrong, but you scores should be around 2600 or so, at default settings.

If you are having a problem with not being able to use agp 8x, you should prolly call AW and figure out what's up. You're lappie should not freeze when you try to enable something that it is capable of.

I did get them on the horn, but they just simply stated for it to function it should be on 4x with fast writes. I got an "STOP: C0000415" error with AW when I tried to enable the 8x. Flap, do you currently have yours set to 8 x? if so what procedure did you take?

Mine has been set at 8X for a while with no issues

Weird.... I have the last set of Omegas, but heard that one of their previous sets had some major issues with the 9600 Mobility cards, so if you are using an older st, you might want to jump up a bit. Other than that I can't think of what would be causing the problem, unless the card isn't properly seated.

Mine is set to 8x..it was shipped to me that way. I did have to flash the bios and reinstall OS. But I'm using all the standard AW drivers. Were you able to use agp8x with the 5600go card?

What BIOS you all runing? I tried the Omega 4.5'sthey gave me an error. So did the Alienware 7.96, 7.95. The 7.91 on the other hand work fine with the 8X enabled. And my 3d score 04 went to 2689. IM gonna try the Omega 4.4 and see what Happens. back track a little bit.

Im runing BIOS 1.16. Been runing fine with my Nvidia card.

I'm on BIOS 1.09, and driver 7.96. you might want to make sure you have the most up-to-date agp driver as well.

Tried the 1.09... no avail, some issue. Worked in 8x on the 7.91 drivers and latest AGP. But wont work with anyother drive. Spent quite a bit of time on the line with alienware. I jsut told them my compy freezes at windows when I boot up. The first thing they told me to do is set AGP to 4 for the ATI. I just dont understand that. Like you have said above Flap, it should work cuz the card is "8x" compadible.

IF anyone comes up with any ideas, please throw them my way.

Thanks,

Phyro

It's in the right place now.

sounds to me like a driver issue... you know that nvidia and ati drivers will confict major if you dont use a driver cleaning program to completly erase all drivers for the nvidia or do a system reinstall before the install of the ati?

Poolumps, thanks for that info, if I ever go back to my Nvidia card or visversa, I will have to rember that. But on the other hand, since Iv had the card, my lappy has been formated 3 times. I tottaly agree with you on the driver being the issue, cuz It worked in 8X with the 7.91 drivers.

Well Phyro, I got a 9600 in my system and out of the box, I was benching at about 2600. Hopefully my 9700 will oob bench at 3000 to 3200.
Why did you get a 9600? Didn't you order a 9700?
Yeah is that a typo or something?

Update: Im still on 4x agp. But I installed the latest Sis AGP drivers again. 1.17E.

Put the omegas on, and now Im geting 2796 in 3d Marks. Still on the 4 X AGP. Who knows maby a feature driver will fix my problem.

Im satisfied with that score, better then the Nvidia, and cooler. No more over heating so far. Knock on wood.

No guys, not a typo. There was a mistake made in my order, and I got a 9600 instead of a 9700. I called them up, though, and they shipped a 9700 to me which arrived about 3 hours ago. I popped it in and it works like a gem. UT2k4 is on max everything with no slow down and is the greatest thing i've ever seen in my life. I benched it and got 3413 out of the box. It's brilliant!

Oh and I got a hat as a sorry for the mix up
